Crap Crap Crap!

I had a load less than half way done in dryer and the plug started smoking!! We don't know what happened, but the plug and the outlet are both scorched. Thankfully the apt complex will have to fix the outlet.

To make it even worse we had stuff in the washer too. Now we have to find places around the house to hang both loads..  ahh!!

Re: Crap Crap Crap!

  • that sucks!!!  Sounds like an electrical issue.  I'll send Adam!  haha.  Does your apt complex not have a laundromat?

  • Our washing machine crapped out a few months ago (like smoking uncontrollably) mid cycle. The clothes in there were just drenched in a puddle of water. At least I had a dryer to put them in. I'm sorry. I'd hang them in the bathroom(s) to dry and not get moldy/smelly.

Oh and of course is crapped out about 2 weeks after the warranty was up, go figure!

  • They do, but I have no idea what the code is. Aaron says he might take the second load down there, but that load is just towels. We are kind of interested in seeing how the clothes dry without the dryer, so we will probably hang them. It's a pain, but a  good chance for us to try it out since we don't have a clothes line.

  • That really sucks. I thought our dryer was going to die a few weeks ago, but it thankfully started working right again. Hope you can get that fixed fast!

  • When I was in grad school and ran out of time and/or quarters, I used to wash clothes by hand in the bathtub and then hang them to dry over the shower rod and the tops of doors. You could try that!

My grandfather passed away a few months before our wedding, and my parents gave us his nearly-new washer and dryer as a wedding gift. Best wedding present EVER.

Just make sure that if you do this, that you dust off the top of the door.  I don't know if you guys are like me, but I don't ever remember to dust the tops of the doors.  I threw some clothes up there at our old house without thinking about it and my clothes were COVERED in dust afterwards.

Hah, mine are always clean because I use them to dry clothes a couple of times a week. I don't put my jeans or my work trousers in the dryer. The rest of my house is a disaster, but the tops of all of my doors are pristine!

We were given HH's grandmothers washer and dryer when she was put in a nursing home. The washer is pretty new but the dryer is really old. Both work good though so thats all that matters.

Definitely happened to me before. I have since hung up towel racks in my laundry room for my delicates and jeans/trousers.

  • Yeah, clothes are being hung now. I'm so mad because we wanted to buy a drying rack a few months ago but decided not to because of budget.

On a happier note the apt complex is having an electrician come look at the outlet. Also, when I bought the washer/dryer I bought Best Buy's 5 year warranty, they are coming to replace the cord and fix it all.

  • That totally sucks, but thank goodness it didn't result in a fire or anything and that your warranty should take care of the dryer.

    Hooray!

  • That really sucks! Hope they fix is really quickly.
  • OMG! So glad you were home when it happened! I guess that's why my mom always tells me not to start a load and then leave the house!

  • That's awful! I'm glad the apt is fixing it. I always worry one of mine will break down. :(
