  • thanks kiz. i'm most nervous about picking the right lighting. i was looking at lighting that goes over the mirror but then i read online that for mirrors less than 4" (ours is 23"), you should put a sconce on each side.

what do you think about that? we have over mirror lighting in all our bathrooms so i'm not sure about this...

also, do you think we should have some sort of accent tile in the shower/along the top of the tile that runs behind the toilet and vanity?

  • What is your plan for staying in the house?  And didn't you just put a bedroom down there for your guest/roommate?

If you plan on selling, having either built in storage or the ability to bring in a tall storage tower or other cabinet will be a major selling point. If it was simply an extra bath with no bedroom on the same floor it would be less of an issue.  But with a bedroom, the next homeowner may have issues with storage and that will turn some off.

Other than that, it looks very modern and cool!

  • I think a row of accent tile is a great idea.  Brings in some spice without breaking the bank.

I've been eyeing this light for our bathroom.  I like how sleek and modern it looks.  I wouldn't do a huge 48" light over a 24" mirror but if they are relatively close I think you're fine.

  • I love the tile!  It will look really good!  I also love that type of sink!!  Very nice choices.

  • I also like accent tile. It could be very simple, too.  You could even just play with patterns in the same tile to create some interest, or choose a tile in a different shape for one row but in the same color if you want to keep it neutral - or bring in a color that goes well with your floor tile into the subway tile.

Otherwise I think it looks good.  As for the lighting, we didn't have room in our tiny bathroom to do side sconces, so went with an overhead light.  It casts upwards though, and I think that helps.
