I understand that no single method is going to work for everyone and there are those who believe that NFP is for naive religious couples and other who need to get with the times and take advantage of the many pharmaceutical methods out there. All biases aside this is my experience and where you can go for more information.
I originally learned about the Billings method of NFP durring a required class for my church ceremony. After taking the class I chose to switch to this method from the pill 2 months before my wedding. We have been using the method successfully for the last few months and I have no worries that we will be able to postpone pregnancy until I finish school in 2 years. I've been charting for about 6 months now and recently came across a book that reinforced my confidence in my decision.
Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler explains the Fertility Awareness Method in a simple way and has helped me to better understand my charts and how to both avoid and achieve pregnancy in the future.
Some bonusus so far using the method:
-Stress from the wedding and a cold last moth caused delays in my cycle of 4 and 9 days. Because I knew my body I was able to understand what was happening. I avoided the cost of a pregnancy test and anxiety usually associated with a late period and was able to figure within about a day when it would actually come.
-I don't have to remember a pill each day and simply have to chart when I'm getting ready for bed each night. It's really very easy!!
I'm very happy with my decision and would advise anyone consider ALL of their birth control options. This won't work for all couples but it is more evolved than the Rhythm Method of the past.
Re: Curious about NaturalFamilyPlanning and FertilityAwerenessMethod?
I use a generic one from target. it's digital and pink.
It only beeps when it's done.
The only complaint I have is that it doesn't light up so in the dark I turn it off. Then after I wake up and shower I check what the temp was. You can only check it twice (turn off and on) and then it reverts to "low". So I make sure i have my bb handy for temp input.
