I just realized something

It's only 3 weeks until Thanksgiving break.  Granted, I work Monday and Tuesday of that week but really, let's be honest....we don't do much.

This really made my Monday better after walking into school this morning and my principal handing me 5 referral's for some of my students.  I have to "approve and sign off" on all SPED referrals.

We have 1-lying and destroying another student's work by writing "*** ass" on every paper (I admit, I kinda laughed at this one).

1- punching another kid in the face for pushing the violator in the dirt (I actually witnessed this one - I was half tempted to let it play out but that would be wrong)

1-lying about a teacher (I can't remember the specifics but it was pretty bad).

1-punching a kid in the face for stepping on his shoe

1-stealing pop tarts from the cafeteria

That is roughly 17% of my class in ISS.  This type of behavior doesn't usually start until Spring Break when the kids get cabin fever.  This means Spring is going to be really bad for me and the behavior of my kids.

I should mention all the above were NOT the first offense for any of these kids.  2 of those student were just finished serving ISS days for other things - they were out for one whole day.

  • I know - I was looking at my calendar counting how many days I had until a day off, lol!  I was excited to learn it isn't many!

I don't have to make a single thing for Thanksgiving this year.  I'm kind of excited - is that bad?

When I was in 8th grade we had a kid in the class that I think was special ed & mainstreamed.  At the time, everyone just made fun of her (I didn't) and thought she was weird, but looking back I bet it was some diagnosable thing.  Anyway, one day I caught some of the other kids trying to ruin her art project.  I took it away from them, cleaned it up for her, and made her take it straight to the teacher.  I was NOT pleased at the idea of them messing with her grades.  Grades were really important to me.

Did the kid who started it/pushed the violator get punished too?  I kinda feel bad for this kid, because when I was a kid & was bullied, a girl pushed me and I punched her in return.  It was after I finally started standing up for myself, and I didn't get in trouble at all.

The destroying of someone else's work is definitely not cool and not tolerated in my class.  It happened in the other SPED room.  The reason I thought it was funny - the kid signed someone else's name thinking we wouldn't figure out who it was.  Ah, the ignorance of youth!

The reason I was going to let the "fight" play out was for that very reason!  This kid taunts my student.  My student has a way of "finding" trouble and tends to get blamed for things.  I kind of wanted him to really lay into the kid that pushed him and stand up for himself.  Unfortunately, he still got in trouble ( he should have) and the other kid got a slap on the hand.

Disciplining sped kids is the one thing I would have written a dissertation on if I had to write one.  It makes me angry some of them get a stigma attached and can do no right in the eyes of others!

Ha, this is how criminals get caught.  They're almost never as smart as they think they are.

That pisses me off no end.  I guess the other kid isn't SPED?

Yeah, I  hate labelers.  People really do suck.
