Two servings of Jesus?

Can a child be baptised twice? Does anyone know?

Re: Two servings of Jesus?

  • I doubt the same church would see it as necessary, but otherwise, I don't know who would stop it.  I think I'd call the second a dedication ceremony.  It's a little like having two weddings.

  • Does that make them a born again? Kid should at least have some serious up before they erase their sin again.

For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.
  • I agree on the two weddings analogy. or maybe like a real wedding and then a reception in your hometown?

We want to get Dagger baptised. It means a lot to my family so we plan on doing it over CHristmas in Florida with them.

His mom has never mentioned it and we assume does not care. She doesn't go to church, my parents do, yadda yadda.

She cannot go to the one in Florida so we didn't know if another was possible.

  • videotape it and send her a copy.

  • I'm pretty sure my H was baptized in both the Greek Orthodox and Episcopal church.
  • Mashed, the thing is I don't even want to tell her we are doing it.

I am sure this is going to sound passive aggressive and immature. But, I KNOW it does not matter to her. But, I know if she learns that we did it with my parents that it WILL matter to her. And I feel that is a stupid reason for her to want to attend his baptism, so I feel like just not mentioning it at all.

  • ah, I see.  yeah, I'd just never mention it, unless you think she'd ask about it.  you can't lie about a baptism, you'd go straight to hell.

  • No, we wouldn't lie. but if she mentions it and protests, then my H wants to consider doing a second one so she can be there. Which again, I think is a silly reason to have one since I don't think she cares about the meaning of it just about being excluded. But oh the guilt she piles on.

  • Yes, you can be baptised more than once.

My husband's father was just baptised this year, because although his family swears that he was baptised, and has all the details, he couldn't find any proof (certificate or photos).  Both his pastor (and ours) said that he should just do it (again?) to have piece of mind.

We're going to do the same for M.  The workers at his orphanage told us they remember his baptism, and even told us which church it was in, but no one knows the date and all the records are paper, so we couldn't get any documentation.  We will have him baptised and officially join our church as soon as he has a better command of the language.

In your case, I wouldn't re-do the baptism just to placate your MIL.  I'd likely invite her to the one she can't attend, and just send photos when she misses it.

  • I would think she'd have a lot more guilt to give if she found out after the fact that you already did it.  And a "but we'll do it again for you" might not cut it.

Could you invite her to the Florida christening, knowing she probably wouldn't go, and then give her the option of a second one?  That way she can't hold anything over your head.

  • I thought that waitress in Galveston already baptised Dagger.

    Groomz is wise.

  • I forgot about the crazy waitress HT! Between that, the poo water, and potentially 2 ceremonies, Dagger could make it into the Guiness Book for most baptized baby. You should have named him Jesus
  • He can have 2 but he also has to have a Bar-Mitzvah for me in 12.5 years.
  • HT has killed me. I feel i overuse that phrase but i am serious this time. You have all brought up valid points. I expect him to start walking (on water) by 11 months.
  • M was baptised twice.

Once in NNICU because she wasn't expected to survice.

Again when she was 6 months old, in a church and party after so she would get lots of presents.
