Medical billing rant.

My doctor's office has not billed my insurance for a YEAR.  They constantly send me the bill to pay in full, and yet never bill my insurance.  I have called the billing dept numerous times to tell them to bill my insurance (mine is a division of UHC, but they arent supposed to bill them, they are supposed to bill GR).  They constantly tell me they will fix it, but never do.

Do I have to constantly keep calling?!  If I dont call, they would probably send me to collections.  And, I am wondering if my insurance co. will freak out in getting all of these invoices all at once (will they drop me bc of it, or decide they wont cover it?).  Ugh, I dont know what to do...

Maybe it's time to find a new Dr.

Re: Medical billing rant.

  • First - Chill out!

Second - your insurance company can't drop you for getting all your bills at one time, each bill should have a date of service on it.

Third - try submitting the bills you receive to your insurnace company yourself if he dr's office keeps messing up. Or call the insurance company yourself and find out the best way to handle this.

  • Its just so annoying and ridiculous.

Im paranoid of this happening, since I am now pre diabetic and have high blood pressure.

I didnt even think this was an option...I will look into that- thanks! :)

  • I agree with Laura. Submit the bills to your insurance company yourself. The docs office only has a certain period of time to submit claims for them to be processed. If they don't send them in that timeframe, then the insurance company doesn't have to pay them (this is how my insurance works and I have UHC) I am not sure if the same rule applies if they bill you only and not your insurance company. I would definitely call your insurance company to find out the scoop though.

And I would change docs if I continally had to deal with crap like that.

I called the billing dept again, and was told they have about 200 patients that are getting kicked out of their computer system everytime they try to bill.  It's only for this specific insurance.  He called it a glitch.  He told me I wouldnt need to continue to call, even if I continue to get these bills in the mail (and I wouldnt be sent to collections).  I might be calling ym insurance co tomorrow about this.  Thank you!

And, I think I may have found a new Dr. that is so much more closer to me :)
