I know we nearly have a month til Thanksgiving but I am hosting our very first Thanksgiving at our house. I am extremely excited and know it will all be fine but I just got really nervous thinking about it, haha! So, share your recipes! What do you cook? Anything special you to do to cook a turkey?

Re: Let's talk Thanksgiving
Wow, just want to say good luck! If it were me, I'd totally just buy the turkey and make all the sides and desserts. Only because whole birds scare me to cook. I love making sides and desserts though.
Hmmm, what would be my perfect T-giving menu if I ever host at my house?
Hors d'oeuvres: bacon-wrapped figs (are figs even in season?)
Turkey (honestly not my fave part of the meal), maybe deep-fried
Sausage/cornbread stuffing (MIL's recipe)
Green bean casserole
Garlic-butter mashed potatoes (lumpy, skins on)
Pansit (filipino noodle dish)
Lumpia (filipino egg rolls)
Verdure al forno (Giada de Laurentis recipe) w/ squash and zucchini
something w/ sweet potatoes (no marshmallows though, that's just weird to me)
Carrot souffl? (sounds weird, tastes amazing)
Fresh-baked dinner rolls w/ real butter
Endless amounts of grandma's pumpkin pie with frozen vanilla Cool-Whip.

We host every year and make almost everything. This year, we are having 18 people.
Keith's aunt brings Granny Tatos (kinda like a mashed tato casserole) and green bean casserole.
We make:
Appetizers:
Deviled Eggs
Pumpkin Dip
Spinach Dip
Queso (I know...weird...but everyone loves it)
Marinated Mushrooms
Baked Brie
Dinner:
Smoked Ham
Baked Turkey
Fried Turkey
Dressing
Gravy
Broccoli and Cauliflower Casserole
Hashbrown Casserole
Praline Sweet Potatoes
Butternut Squash
Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Pea Salad
Macaroni and Cheese
Desserts:
WAY TOO MANY (Last year, we had 16 people and 14 desserts!)
my favorite way to make sweet potatoes is to mash them up, add butter and a little bit of orange juice, and top with crumbled oatmeal cookies (and drizzle with a little bit more butter) and bake. make sure it's the hard oatmeal cookies, not the soft ones.
yum!
Tell me about this hashbrown casserole

I'm not hosting this year and won't have to do a bunch of cooking... and looking forward to it!

we all LOVED the turkey!!
We actually made yesterday Thanksgiving since we won't have another chance this year.
We had the usual, turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beens. We also made baked sweet potatoes and homemade apple cobbler.
All the magazines have good schedules right now. Real Simple and Good Housekeeping for sure have excellent recipes with "how to" guidelines including what can be made ahead, chop this while you bake that etc. Usually it's not the cooking that stresses people out, it's the logistics.
The key to a good Turkey is BRINING! Worth the hassle.
Also, buy a pack of "tossable" Glad "tupperware" when you're at the store. Then you can easily send leftover care packages home with everyone and not be out all your good plastic!
