**Misa**

Just saw your blog with photo of your Ketubah.  Where did you find it?  I looked EVERYWHERE and never saw one that I even remotely liked for the price.  I ended up designing our own and LOVE it.  Plus, it's a small size, which was important for us because we have very little wall space.

Re: **Misa**

  • It is Moderne Marble by Ray Michaels.  Honestly, I can't remember where I ordered it from... it was one of the online Judaica stores though.  I chose the place because of the text (it was very Interfaith neutral where some of the other Interfaith ones weren't so much) but it looks like all the sites may have changed their Interfaith texts so I can't narrow it down.  But the artist himself signed the ketubah which I thought was pretty neat.

    What does yours look like?

  • That's really cool that the artist signed it too!

I wasn't able to find a text that we liked either, so we wrote our own.  My SIL works at a Jewish day school and had the head of the Hebrew department translated our text for us.  The pic below doesn't show the colors all that fantastically - the border isn't nearly that ochre or prominent on the print.  We had it printed using archival inks and papers.  Final printed size is 9"x9".

  • Holy Huge!  I tried for 20 minutes to resize, but for some reason it just doesn't like me.  Sorry.  Hey, at least you get to see the whole thing!

  • Haha it's actually really not that big on my screen... I was hoping to be able to read what your text said!  Haha

I like it though.  where were you able to get it done if you designed it yourself?

  • I found a company in Seattle that prints archival prints of artists paintings.  Since I already had the artwork in a digital format, it was pretty cheap.  Overall, it was a lot less expensive than the commercial designs I liked and having the totally custom text just got super expensive.  We really were blessed by having the translation done for us as a mitzvah. :)

    Here's the text:

On the 1st day of the week, the 7th day of March,
in the year 2010, corresponding to the 21st day of Adar, in the year 5770, in (city), CA, the groom, Dan (last name), and the bride, Ashley (last name), joined each other before God, family and friends into a mutual covenant of marriage.

With love and compassion each vowed to the other:

?Today I love you completely, as I did yesterday and as I will tomorrow.

I will be there for you when you need me most.

I will laugh with you in the good times and struggle with you through the bad.

I will share in your dreams, delight in your joys, and comfort you in your sorrows.

I will be your confidant, your counsel, your friend, and your lover.?

Together, we will create a home where both of our traditions are celebrated with honor, and where the values of our families are nurtured and passed on.

May we be poor in misfortune and rich in blessings. May our similarities bind us, our differences enrich us, and our love define us.

May our love provide us with the freedom to be ourselves and the courage to follow our mutual and individual paths.

May we live each day as the first, the last, and the only day we will have with each other.

Our commitment to each other seals this document.
