Anyone been to Dominican Republic?
In trying to figure out a vacation, DH looked on the Spirit website and found $59 tix to Dom. Rep. Also $39 to Ft. Myers. DR would be most likely an all inclusive place for a week. But I found places on VRBO on Marco Island, FL for a decent weekly rate too.
I've never been to DR, anyone been? I'm thinking it might be less expensive to do the FL trip even w/getting a cheap rental car than a whole DR trip. We'll definitely fly Spirit b/c we have a credit to use. DH called me about it early this morning so I haven't looked into either very much yet.
Re: Anyone been to Dominican Republic?
Here is my review from Tripadvisor. We went in summer of '09. I thought it was a great getaway for the price. A rental car wouldn't be needed IMO, it is kinda one of those islands that you just want to stay on the resort at.

FWIW, Puerto Plata was a very nice beach and is cheaper/less popular than Punta Cana. I'd definitely go back.
my aunt and uncle go to the DR several times a year. They stay at different resorts, but always all-inclusive.
In fact, if they both lose their jobs, they might just move there! ha ha
If you want any recs, let me know and I'll ask for some.
my MIL and FIL went there back in Feb. for 10 days. They stayed at an all-inclusive. They did go around the island but used a taxi instead of renting a car. They loved it.
They go somewhere every Jan/Feb and will be going back again this next year. They have even talked about taking the entire family down there.
