How much did you pay for your photo book?

I haven't been around in sooo long but its always nice to sign on and read what everyone has been up to!

I'm sure there have been several similiar posts.. but I must admit, I need you girls.....

Our picture situation has been a nightmare. My photog is awesome and she is one of my friends but I can only look at the pictures on a password protected sight that won't function for my mom 50% of the time... which ends up being a pain for ME! And there are 2100 of them!! It has taken months just to go through them! I do really love them though...

Anyway, you have to pay $25 per pic to download and print them or you can buy prints starting at $8 for a 4X6. I have yet to hold in my hand a single professional photograph of our wedding. My friend who got married in May got a huge book of proofs!

So my photog wants me to decide what I want and everything seems too expensive! She is making layouts for a flatmounted one that STARTS at $1200!!! She said we could get one where you slide the pictures in for 400-500. I was originally thinking about getting a small one for my parents, but FORGET that!

I'm starting to feel like I could just make one on Shutterfly for 100 and be fine with it.

What are you getting/did you get?

How much?

How many pics?

Etc. ?

TIA!

Re: How much did you pay for your photo book?

  • that is crazy to me.

Our book is $120 and that includes tax and shipping etc.  It's 100 glossy pages, and our photog did up a beautiful layout, storybook style.  He made one for himself as a promo, so I was able to see what it was like before I chose. I'm making a few changes to make sure my favourite pics are in there, but for the most part, I love it that way he designed it.

IMO, I would just do the shutterfly thing.  Those prices sound extreme to me.  Even the Italian leather bound books around here go for $300, and those ones are the cardstock pages with the book about an inch thick.

  • Our photog went through and got rid of some of the REALLY bad ones, etc. We got about 700, but they are all the AMAZING shots. (There are more, we just didn't get them).

She posted online, and we got a disc. We also got proofs of everything on the disc. I was able to put all the best of the best into a photo album I bought at Target.

We also had a print credit and an album credit included as part of our photography package. (We bought the big one.) The album credit covers an awesome album for us. (Fancy cover and pages, etc. I think it's going to be 30-35 pages.) We are doing this now...It took me forever to get around to it. Our print credit is a few hundred. I know her prices are a more than I can do on my own, but based off the proofs, it will be nice paper, better ink, etc. I think a 4 x 6 is like 6 bucks, so the price yours gave you isn't rediculous. I'm going to end up printing copies for everyone through shutterfly or walgreens or somewhere for christmas, just because it's so much cheaper.

    HTH.

  • Do you get a CD/DVD of all your photos? If not, I'd pay for it and then you can decide what you want to do with your pictures. You can get prints made, you can make a "proof" album on shutterfly if you want or you can even go a little fancier and get a flushmount album made. I know I've seen websites of companies that make the flushmount albums...you know, with the thick pages. Either way you cut it, it will be MUCH cheaper than the prices that she's charging.

Our package included 2 8x10 and 2 5x7 prints and a proof album of 300 pictures. And we got a DVD of all the pictures so we're able to do what we want with them. We're making photobooks (like the ones on shutterfly) for our parents for Christmas. We might make our own traditional matted album at some point.

  • We are getting a pro album ( with the thicker, lay-flat pages) that was included in our package. We pick up to 60 images for it. I think it's about $250.

I've been going a little nuts making photo books for our parents and grandparents, so I have a bit of advice to share!

I don't recommend Shutterfly. I got a groupon for an 8x8 book for $10 so I used that to make a book for DH's parents. The quality of the images wasn't that great and they didn't give you freedom to manipulate the layouts that they offer.

I made my parents one using MyPublisher. I think the quality is WAY better, and you can resize any of the pictures, move them around, crop, etc. They also have nice templates to use, or you can customize your own. Also, if you start an account, you get a $20 gift card.

I then made a book for us using Mixbook. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't attest to the quality of the finished product, but they have a "Simple Wedding" template that is really beautiful. You can design your own layouts, resize, and move stuff around, but they have some really cool additional features. You can change the transparency of the pictures so you can layer photos for a really cool effect. You can change the border size/color, have shadows, or reflect your pictures. They also have tools to fade your pictures out to black. Our book, which is 47 pages and uses 250 images, costs $56 for an 8x11 size or $90 for an 11x14.

That was probably way longer than you wanted, but I hope it helps!

  • Ours is around $700 but doesn't include the proofs. If i want the proofs it is $2 a photo and I have to buy them all. Around 1000 so $2000.
