I finished my training yesterday and it went great!
After my friend/boss left I decided to jump in and make some calls. It took about 3 tries before I got someone. I got lots of wrong numbers and disconnects, but a few people I actually talked to. Everyone I talked to was great except for one.
This one poor woman lost her baby just under a month ago and here I am calling her asking her about her feeding plans. I felt/feel so terrible!!! I had asked my boss how often that happens and she said it only happened to her once that she didn't know ahead of time. Usually the clinic tells us, but I got the impression that this lady hasn't notified the clinic. I think that the lady thought I was calling to ask her to return the pump the clinic gave her. I told her to take her time returning it and I appoligized like 5 times. I got so flustered that I forgot to tell the poor lady that she can keep recieving her WIC for 6 months. Should I call her back!? ![]()
So, other than that this job seems very fulfilling and I think i'm going to love it!
Re: First day on the job.
I have been out of the loop the past couple of weeks, what is that you are doing again?
That is so sad, but you didn't know. Could you send her a letter letting her know that she can keep her WIC for 6 months? I am sure that she is still grieving and probably won't even remember what you told her. If you can't send her a letter I might call her back in a week or so and let her know.
I am a WIC breastfeeding peer counselor. I call expectant and new moms who get WIC and talk to them about their feeding plans, answer general questions and then refer them to others if I need to.
That's a good idea. She was Indian and didn't understand me very well, so maybe a letter would be good.
You will do great at this job as you are very knowledgeable about this subject, so I know the ladies who get to talk with you will love you.
Good luck!
Aw, that's so sad.
It sounds like this job is going to be a great fit for you, Tiff!
