smelly washer??

Anyone know how to clean and/or get rid of a smelly odor coming from our washer?  Can't seem to figure out where it's coming from...

Thanks!

Re: smelly washer??

  • If its a front loader, there is probably water/mildew in the rubber ring where the door closes. Try leaving the door open between washes, and in the meantime run a wash cycle with white vinegar. Tide also makes a washing machine cleaner product that you run a cycle with (no clothes, run it empty) and that freshens it up as well.
  • Tide came out with this washing machine cleaner, don`t know if you`ve seen it?

  • We have a front loader and always leave the door open after each use to let it air dry. Try using the vinegar to see if that helps and check the plastic part near the front if you have a front loader, it might need to be cleaned. Also try not to leave damp clothes sit in your washer

  • Ours is doing the same thing and my MIL told me to do this when she came down to visit and it worked. She said to do a wash cycle with a cup of white vinegar and to keep the lid up because most washers have a little bit of water left in the bottom that molds.

    The white vinegar worked wonders!

  • Check the hoses in the back of the machine (the ones that go into the wall). If they are kinked or jammed, water can sit stagnant in them, then be distributed into your wash water with each load.

  • Definitely agree with the white vinegar!  If that doesn't do the trick though, try running it without clothes on a hot cycle with a cup or so of bleach.  Has always worked for me!
