S/o Politics... Canadian version... INTERESTING!

So, in the past week three fairly significant things have happened....

- BHP's bid to buy Potash corp in Saskatchewan was rejected by the Federal government.  (By my understanding, it would have given BHP 90something% control over the resource) http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/11/03/potash-ottawa-review.html

- BC Premier (leader) stepped down.  (Over a tax, no less....  The province merged our federal and provincial taxes and restaurant meals and consulting went up and people are MASSIVELY complaining...  It's because they had one tax and not the other before and now they have both - 7% prov tax + 5% fed tax =  12% tax) http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/11/03/bc-premier-gordon-campbell.html

- A mine was rejected just north of where I live.  (They wanted to move a lake...) http://www.bclocalnews.com/bc_cariboo/williamslaketribune/news/106665793.html

    MOVE a lake?!

"The federal government announced Tuesday that it won?t give Taseko Mines Ltd. authorization to build the Prosperity Mine project as proposed. If built, the project would be located about 125 kilometres southwest of Williams Lake at Fish Lake (above), which would have been drained in order for the mine to proceed. If the mine were to be built, it would provide 500 fulltime and 1,200 spin jobs in the region. "

The quote above is from the article underneath the photo.
