s/o Melissa post :: political poll

I'm not asking how you voted ... just which side's ideals do you tend to agree with more ( and I mean long term, not just in yesterdays election )

Re: s/o Melissa post :: political poll

  • I'm almost half-and-half, but maybe slightly more Rep, like 53% Rep and 47% Dem.

  • I'm Democrat but am looking into the ideals of the Libertarians. At this point, I'm not too thrilled with either party's ways and am looking for something more.

Interesting... meanwhile E is a Republican whose really a Libertarian.  He's an advocate of the OLD Republican platform of small government and laissez faire economy, rather than the new Republican platform with such an emphasis on religion and bigger government.  The Libertarians now are kind of what the Republicans used to be.

Me... I usually vote Democrat because I vote social issues, and that's where my views tend to lie... though I'm fiscally a little more conservative than the Democratic party and when it comes to crime I'm a LOT more conservative.

  • I don't know.  I don't tend to do Politics.  I tend to be more Conservative as a whole....  My DH could tell you what party that is more like but I don't know.

  • LOL, Bonnie. In the US, you'd likely be Republican or Libertarian. And yeah, there you have it right there. E and I have political similarities and differences, but it obviously doesn't damage our relationship. We're both bright and informed and we both think, so it's fun more than anything. Though I wish he wasn't quite so unhappy with Obama. And we're both pretty happy about the election. NJ local is still primarily blue, which is good with a red governor. And I prefer when the president is blue to have a red legislature and vice versa. It's all about the checks and balances. The worst thing is to just to have "yes men" in government.
  • In all honesty, I'm really on the fence about politics in general right now. I'm so confused as to what the parties really stand for - all I see is them fighting against each other and causing school-age drama. I guess I should probably figure things out more before the next election...

  • I really haven't paid that much attention to the politics.

I do not care for the ads where they are just bashing their opponent. Not one bit.

Well and the real problem is figuring out is what the person you're voting for really stands for, regardless of parties. Even once you get past all the mudslinging (I had no idea what some candidates this year supported since all their commercials were attack ads at their opponent), you still don't know if they're telling you the truth. You can't even really trust voting records sometimes because you have no idea what influenced their vote.

  • H says he is too Conservative for the Liberals and too Liberal for the Conservatives.
