So I just called one of my references to let them know that I am applying for this clerkship, and asked if they had rec'd a call from dream job. The answer? No.
I am starting to get really annoyed with dream job. If you don't want to hire me, that's fine. Just tell me so so I don't sit around hoping that I'll get to work for you!
::grumble::
Re: Stupid dream job :(
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Don't I wish!
FWIW's the job is still listed on their website (the site was updated on Friday), so I'm reasonably certain they haven't filled it yet. I'm just annoyed that they're taking so long and being so tight-lipped about their process.
I've been down this road so many times that I had a visceral reaction to reading your post. The waiting is the worst part.
FWIW, despite being rejected from many jobs that I thought were "dream" jobs, I eventually landed the one I really wanted. I took a rather circuitous path (I decided to work at a lesser job for a while with the goal of working my way up to a better firm), but it worked. You may not get what you want right away, but if you have a long-term plan in place and work hard to follow it, I would bet you eventually will find yourself where you want to be.
Good luck, I know how awful this is.
I emailed them on on the 3rd, and got this response on the 6th:
"Hi Heather?
We are still in the process of making our hiring decision and will be in touch with you and the other candidates shortly. Thanks so much for your continued interest in the position!
Celine"
I don't want to seem stalker-esque, so I haven't called/emailed again. Really, really wish they would call, or send a letter, or SOMETHING. Get a move on, non-profit!
Aw man. I know all too well how frustrating it is to wait to hear back about job status. Eventually they'll get back to you but waiting is killer!
It's good that you're applying for other things--whether it's your dream job or another great one, the right position will come along. Good luck!
At least they haven't decided... rather than decided on someone else!
I've used the "Hi, just checking in, any idea on a timeline? b/c i am close to getting an offer with x company, but I would prefer to work for you. I'm willing to wait a bit longer, but i can't wait forever...." Sometimes a sympathetic HR person will tell you the real scoop OR it will make them get moving if they love you but they've just been dragging their heels.
Good luck!
