Black Friday

My mom and I were thinking about going to Montana for Black Friday. She was very excited about it but then I realized that my dance show is that same Friday and it's preformance manditory...now my mom is sad we're going to miss all the deals. My question is, is it really that great?

Re: Black Friday

  • I never go shopping on Black Friday unless it's online shopping which you can do from Canada.  DH goes about every other year for something specific he sees in he ads (vacuum last year, laptop a couple years ago).
  • I think it's worth it. We hit up target last year and got a TON of xmas decorations for super cheap. Which was great because we didn't really have any. We got a 6' pre-lit xmas tree for $25. Hard to beat that!

I think it does depend on what you're looking for and how tight your budget is, for us, it's a must.

I agree that it depends on what you're looking for.  I think in the past, Black Friday deals have been better than they are now.  It seems like there are a lot of retailers now that are doing "Black Friday" deals every Friday in November, and mostly online.  I got some great deals last year on Cyber Monday.

  • My mom and I go every year. Sometimes we find great deals and sometimes we dont. It really depends on what you are looking for. Now that Jaiden is getting older and  able to play with more toys I will be definatly be stalkig the ads for great deals on toys.

  • Sometimes you can get fantastic deals.  But what makes it exciting for me is just being in the crowds.  I just like the experience of getting up at the ass crack of dawn, stopping at McDonalds for some coffee on the way to the mall, shopping in the frenzy...

    Good times.

Exactly this.  Also, if you map out what you want and where you want it from, you can get some great deals.  You just have to know what you are trying to get.

  • Some places have their deals start earlier. I went to the outlet malls near my town the week before black friday and I was informed that I was getting the same sales that were going to be going on for black friday. I still went out for black friday and found they were right!

So my advice would be to go shopping the weekend before and see what you can grab before the rush on Friday!

  • I never go.  I don't like shopping though, so maybe I should have responded. :)

I went once to get a TV when I was in college.  I saw enough that day to know I never wanted to go again.  The whole day makes me sad to think of what people will do to save a few bucks.

If there's a giant screen TV or a furniture set or something really expensive that you wanted to buy anyway, and on that day it's half off or something, it might be worth it.  Maybe. :)

LOL! This is exactly why I NEVER shop on Black Friday! Cyber Monday is my best friend, especially since I ususally have to ship my gifts out of state.

  • Personally, I hate going and being in those crowds. But I do always check the ads and if there is something that we need/want that we were going to buy anyway that is on sale - I will go to get that item. For me its just a matter of if its worth it or not. Most of the time, its not.
  • I'm not a fan either so don't feel bad!  Having worked retail through the holidays for so many years, I want nothing to do with the whole thing!!
  • I know I'm late on this, but...

I love shopping on Black Friday, but mostly for the sister bonding time and experience.  Most of the time, the products you find on sale are made for that day.  So if you find a toaster for $2, it was made quickly and sometimes very cheaply for $2.  I shouldn't say most of the time, because there are a ton of regular sales, but if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
