Suggestions? Date restaurant downtown

For Christmas this year, I bought my DH tickets to an NFL game in Cincinnati. I'm planning the whole "weekend getaway," so we will be staying downtown.

He is completely oblivious to my plans, but he has mentioned recently that he would like to go to dinner someplace fancy/nice (we rarely get dressed up and go out). We're from Indianapolis, so I'm really at a loss for where I should make reservations.

 Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

  • Jeff Rubys

    Via Vite

    Palomino

    Mortons (love this place!)

PM me if you need any other recommendations.

  • I would call the Cincinnatian and see if they have any weekend specials for the dates you'll be in town. They used to have what they called the "weekender package" which gave you a $100 gift certificate for dinner in their restaurant. I did it once for DH's birthday and it was wonderful, we got a great room and had an incredible meal.

  • Orchids does a Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings and gets rave reviews (Cincinnati Magazine just rated it #1 rest. in the city).

Lavomatic- Their 2nd floor dining is very romantic.

Jean-Roberts Table- I have never been, but would definitely try for a fancy night out.

  • Local 127 Downtown is awesome!  You can do a tasting menu which they personalize for you.

McCormick & Schmitt's is great.  Steak was awesome.

I've heard good things about Orchids but have never eaten there (mostly b/c of the cost).

Jeff Ruby's is also really good.

You def have plenty of choices for some awesome places!

  • Jeff Ruby's - For really awesome steak!

    Nada - For upscale Mexican

Palomino - I've really only been there for their happy hour but agree it's good.

Via Vite - For Italian with a nice view of the square and good people watching from the patio (though, with it being cold not sure if that's the case when you'll be there!)

Local 127 - For farm to table food.

And, you must stop by Graeter's at Fountain Square for ice cream dessert.  Doesn't matter if it's freezing out, it's worth the temporary cold!  Signature flavor is Black Raspberry Chip (and anything with chips literally has chunks of chocolate bar!) but my personal favorite is Black Cherry.

  • Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse!!! ...along the lines of St. Elmo's ;-)

Lavomatic changed hands so I am not sure about the quality -

I would do either Orchids or Palace- they are both very good. Jean Roberts table is also very yummy - but is not like Pigalls which was more upscale. I do love Jeff Ruby, Nicolas (you can take a cab if you dont want to drive), Mortons is good and basic. There is also Local 127 which gets great reviews but I havent been there.
