I need your help finding my dad's laptop
My Dad's shop in Bloomington was broken into 2 nights ago & Laptop was stolen Thankfully they didn't get anyone else computer that holds all the billing information. I am looking on CL for it but thought I would also make a post here as maybe it's posted on a "for sale" board at a school or something.
It's a HP 410N
Thank you so much.

Re: I need your help finding my dad's laptop
Too little too late advice here, but as someone who runs several small biz on my laptop, I was || close to losing FIVE YEARS of everything I'd ever done, IRS stuff, accounting, sales, customers, everything, due to a pukey laptop that was too old. To say I was having near panic attacks is an understatement.
It's all about backups OFF your system. There are a number of systems out there and it's awesome because the information is encrypted and safe no matter what happens to your laptop.
I hope he gets it back but I'm going to say it's not super likely
why isn't it backed up?
sad to say chances are pretty slim he'll get it back and even slimmer that everything is still on it.
MIL's laptop was stolen a few months ago. It was never recovered. She reported it to the police. She checked pretty much every single pawn shop that she could - no luck. We're guessing that the thief just parted it out for cash.
The laptop was DH's old one, I had one back up from just before we gave it to her, but it wasn't useful because it didn't contain her stuff, she's lucky that she used a flash drive for most of it though.
Good luck!!!
Sadly they had also taken my Dad's back up USB but I know he had some of the stuff backed up on another computer.
Thanks
DH's hard drive crashed almost 2 years ago, being the computer techie he is, it was devastating for him to lose so much (he hadn't backed up in six months or so and he lost a lot...)
Fast forward to now, he built a server with TWO mirrored hard drives, they are separate but they copy each other, both of our computers back up to this automatically every day, so if one hard drive fails there's the back-up mirrored copy. In ADDITION to that he has an external hard drive that he keeps at work and bring's home once a month to back up each of our computer's. As soon as he's done backing up each month he brings it back to the car so A. he doesn't forget it. and B. if there is a fire or something, it will hopefully be protected in the car...
He's a bit anal about it now, lol. BUT it is so nice that I never have to worry about my own back-ups or losing anything :-D
So a little update - Still not laptop but I found out this morning that not only was his shop broken into but the business next door & they lost a lot more. I am so thankful it was not the other way around but I feel really bad for the other business.
My Dad is normally really good about not keeping them together but that night was a busy night at home and I guess he rushed out with out even thinking about it.
