Has anyone watched the marathon in Brooklyn or Queens?

Hey everyone - I want to find a new spot to watch the marathon this year - usually I go to mile 25 in central park, but I'd love to see it at some point in Brooklyn or Queens. Any suggestions for a good spot to watch? (Close to the subway is a plus, but I'll go wherever.)  Thanks!

Re: Has anyone watched the marathon in Brooklyn or Queens?

  • The marathon runs right by my block in Sunset Park, Brooklyn!! And it's so not crowded on the sidewalks to watch! Take the N or D to 36th Street and *boom* you're right there on 4th Avenue!! Or you can take the R to 25th Street or 36th Street. Big Smile

    That's perfect! Thanks, I hope you're doing well :)

  • I've watched by the Queensboro Bridge (7 train to Queensboro or E to Queens Plaza), just as runners turn onto the bridge.  It can get a bit crowded there, since there are usually bands and such at that spot.  Probably Meghan's suggestion is better.
  • we always watched on 4th ave as well (usually around 9th street, where it's not too bad as far as crowds).  friends of ours always hung out on lafayette, which i think gets more crowded because it's a narrower street.

     good luck!

  • And just a little bit farther down - we always watch at 4th Ave and Union Street. They usually have a band playing outside the bagel shop and all the people have been so fun! Anywhere along 4th ave is great.

  • I live in Bay Ridge, and its AWESOME to watch all the runners pouring off the Verrazano bridge. There are tons of people that watch the race in Bay Ridge, its always a good time.

     :)

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker ...here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)
  • Great info, thanks everyone!
  • I go to 4th Ave and 9th Street.  I live on 5th and 9th so I have no excuses.  It's towards the beginning of the race so you have to be there early but it's never crowded.  And then you can hop the subway and see another part if you wanted.

  • I live in Greenpoint, and I watch on Manhattan Avenue/Greenpoint Avenue.  It's a great place to watch since there aren't that many spectators in that neighborhood.  I love being able to cheer them on and really feel like I'm a part of it!  And there is a Starbucks on the corner for coffee/bathroom breaks. :)
