I know lots of us are big readers around here, so I'm propsing a poll:
1) Does anyone have an eReaders, like the Kindle, Sony Readers, etc?
2) What do you like most about it?
3) What do you not like about it?
Paul asked if I was interested in one, as a Christmas gift. I think I'm leaning more towards the Kobo WiFi eReaders, as it's Canadian made... but I am open to hearing more about the Kindle and others. I would LOVE to get an iPad, as it has the virtual bookshelf app (plus a million othe great apps) but we just don't have $600 for something like that. The eReaders have come down alot in price, they are only like $150 now, so that's completely reasonable for an electronic book reader.
Anyway, any help/input is appreciated! Thanks!
Re: eReaders?

Kindle! I've got the 2nd Generation one.
2) What do you like most about it?
I love it. I love being able to easily and lightly take as many books with me wherever I go.
3) What do you not like about it?
Not all books are immediately available, but there are a lot that are.
FWIW, I've heard/read that the Kobo sucks major donkey balls. Apparently it freezes a lot and doesn't always work. I believe that the Kindle has come down to $160.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
I heard this too about the first generation Kobo. But the second generation just came out in October and it has wifi, better battery, they said it runs smoother...
Maybe I'll just go with the Kindle. Is it available in stores anywhere or just online in Canada?

I absolutely love my kindle!!! I take it everywhere. The best thing about it is if I finish a book I can log on to amazon and buy another with the wifi feature. It's amazing.
I am also a huge fan of the e-ink. I tried to read a book on Dh's ipad. The brightness of the screen really bothered me after awhile. I love that on my kindle the screen really looks like paper.
Also the new kindle is only 139 dollars. I'm not sure if you have them in Canada but Target sells kindles here.
I love my kindle! It's so convenient in that you have so many books at your fingertips (either already loaded onto it, or buy it through WiFi). I particularly love that its small, since I commute with it on the tube. And the screen is easy on the eyes.
What I don't like is that it's not as easy to flip back at previous pages/chapters. You can do it, I just find it cumbersome, and not as quick as a real book.

I am madly in love with my Kindle! I love it because it's easy to carry with me all the time. I'm a fast reader so I don't have to worry about hauling multiple books. It is so so easy to read because of the ink. You can customize the words to make them bigger or smaller. It tells you what percentage of the book you've read. I love being able to sit it in my lap and read without having to hold the pages down. That makes it easy to read and eat, etc. Seriously, I'm a total Kindle convert.
What I don't like about it: The books get "delivered" through wi-fi, so if you're somewhere without wi-fi and don't already have a book on there to read, you can't buy any.
Ah, I didn't realize they'd released a 2nd edition.
As far as I know you can only get the Kindle online through Amazon.
Also, as others sort of said above, the eInk is totally different than a screen. Reading on an eReader is just like reading a book. The iPad would lead to the same sort of eye strain that reading off a computer screen does.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
No, we don't have Target in Canada and STOP RUBBING IT IN

I just got my kindle a few weeks ago for my birthday. So far, I love it! I can't wait to use it exclusively (I am still working on my backlog of "real" books).
Staples has just started selling the Kindle (at least in the states).
Also, here is a link we used when we were deciding between the Nook and Kindle:

GL!
ETA: Kindle announced a couple weeks ago they would be introducing the "loaning" feature later this year. This feature was one of the only features that really separated the Nook from the Kindle. With the number of Kindle owners on this board it might be nice to lend each other books, once the enhancement is rolled out.
Hmmm, okay... well I am glad to hear that everyone loves the Kindle! I have always wanted the Kindle and I'm glad it's down to around $160 Canadian... but we still don't have credit cards (and don't plan on it) so buying online is difficult for us. I know there are Visa Gift cards that I assume would work for this...
I think I'm going to now do an online comparison between the Kindle and the second generation Kobo...

I'm not sure what version of kindle you have but mine I can toggle the little square button bottom left and it will move chapters for me.
I absolutely love my Kindle. It holds a charge for a long time, and there is a lot of free content available. The books are less expensive to purchase than hardcover or paperback, and I don't have a room full of books to regift/recycle. And - there's a Kindle app for my phone (droid), so I can read anywhere even if I don't have the unit with me. You can take notes, bookmark, and highlight text if you're so inclined. I'm waiting for Amazon's magazine selection to get better.
The new, lower cost Kindle works off a wi-fi network rather than the 3G network, so you have to be in a wi-fi zone to download any content. The more expensive one downloads in more places, but I honestly don't see that as a problem, since I'm usually at home or work when I purchase something. The newer version is also a little smaller than the older one.
