Family Guy last night

Anyone watch?

I know it's the kind of show, like South Park, that is supposed to be offensive, and I normally find it insanely entertaining partly for that reason, but last night just seemed a little too much.

I don't find much funny about a Jewish wedding in Warsaw the day of the invasion. I was on edge that it was going to go ugly the whole episode, and it did several times. The McCain/Palin button on the Nazi uniform was in poor taste.

And I've had 99 Luftballoons stuck in my head all day.

Re: Family Guy last night

  • I didn't think last night's was as funny as they usually are, but I did find the show as a whole fairly entertaining. I actually found the "prom night dumpster baby" song from last season or the season before in a lot worse taste.
  • I wish people would stop comparing those with whom they disagree to Nazis (hi, Madonna).  Until someone is engaging in genocide, I find it to be inappropriate, even as a joke.

This has been really bothering me lately; I started thinking about it more around the time MCP started using "2nd holocaust" as a buzzword around the Iran/Isreal issue. I'm just not finding genocide very appropriate as a conversation piece.

In the grand scheme of Family Guy line-crossers, you guys are probably right that this isn't out of the ballpark.

  • I enjoyed it, and I think it was one of the stronger episodes.  (I love the Stewie and Brian on the road episodes in general, though.)

Family Guy is generally shocking and walks the line (some would say crosses the line) in regard to the boundaries of good taste.  I think it's hilarious that Fox News is all in a tizzy about the MPC button reference.  We'll chalk that up as the righteous indignation outburst of the week.  My Republican H thought it was funny too. :)

I think it's hilarious that Family Guy is a Fox show.

  • Well, I'm like this, but I thought it was hilarious. ?I think this show is always head and shoulders above any of the others (South Park, The Simpsons, etc). ?Where South Park is just bull dozerish, Family Guy is typically more subtle. ?I feel that was their only real sin. ?The oil reference was cute and clever, the button was overstepping for them. ?

I'm only not amused by unfunny stupidness (like Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich - could anything be fuucking stupider?), but to me, nothing is taboo. ?I loved prom night dumpster baby. ??

They also did the McP button self-consciously. ?As Stewie says, "Well, clap clap clap!" ?They know it was over done. ?

With South Park, they're actually telling you what to do. ?They're telling you a philosophy to have (Everything is stupid, we hate it all!). ?Family Guy is a punch line. ?It's just funny. ?

Just think, Family Guy is just about the funny. ?How many times have you heard, "Oh, you want a Prius? ?Did you see the South Park about the Pius? HAHAHAH, I'm a douche bag with no real brain cells!" ?You can't do that with Family Guy. ?It's just about hilarity. ?And Seth MacFarlane is totally my celeb crush.?
