Re: HAPPY DIWALI AND GUY FOX DAY!
I was thinking about making Indian food tonight, totally going to do it now!!!
hehe - it's actually Guy Fawkes, not Fox.
We are having the first fire of the season in our fireplace (live in a condo, so no bonfire). Not buring anyone in effigy though - perhaps I'll tear out a few pictures of various politicians and such from TIME magazine and toss them to the flames.
No Problem - - I was actually thinking it was Fauks or something so I had to double check before I posted anything. The "Fox" made me giggle though.
So is your husband British? Mine is - from London/Surrey - hence I would totally understand a Fawkes/Fox joke as we have many similar pronounciation confusions (porn/pawn, shaws/shores, etc).
He is actually American (born in Illinois) but raised in England, Durham actually. From age 5 months to 16 years, then he moved to MN (where we met in high school). So to me he is British, and his whole family is English, minus his mom. Haha, the best is when his family comes in town!
One time his niece needed erasers, she went into the store asking for rubbers.....they led a 12 year old to the condom aisle.
Oh my! That is hilarious - his poor neice must have been so confused and embarassed!
We've had lots of confusion like that too - from pants/trousers to periods/full-stops and everything in between. DH has been here only 5 years so there are probably still more vocab differences to uncover, but he does pretty well with the adjustments and as far as I know has never told any of his students they need to bring rubbers to their lessons (he's a music teacher). I think I would have heard something if the parent showed up and knocked him out!
His parents, on the other hand, are another story . . .
