Heather or Christina (CTri) Or other Temping ladies...
Have either of you gone back to temping to avoid after your babies? I am not anticipating ovulation yet, but I figure it will be soon and I really don't want to go back on hormonal BC. I would like to go back to temping to avoid. Are either of you trying to temp while you are breastfeeding? Or do they say not to temp while breastfeeding due to the extra hormones in your body that can affect your temps? (I would check my copy of TCOYF but I let a friend borrow it...I am going to have to ask for it back soon.) Norah is sleeping through night right now, so I don't really have to worry about the lack of sleep playing into the temp difference.
TIA!
Re: Heather or Christina (CTri) Or other Temping ladies...
I actually started temping back in July to get back in the habit of it (which took me about three weeks). I have my chart link in my siggy and as you can see in the early days I missed a lot of temps and at first they were all over the place, but then I started to see a pattern and then AF returned right when Mariela turned 7 mo.
We were careful in the beginning using back-up protection at first, but then I re-read my book on the Sympto-Thermal method that has a whole chapter on charting to avoid while BFing and we followed that. It is basically the rule of 3. If I didn't have a temp dip or spike, we would have sexy time and then wait at least 3 days after that before sexy time again. Once my temps really leveled out it was easier to follow as I had a lot of dips and spikes in the beginning.
If you are on FF.com there are quite a few BFing moms that chart to TTA with a lot of success. It can be done, but you really have to be on top of charting and reading your body's signs. Also, I tested my temps on those nights when I got up with M in the middle of the night (not often anymore) before and after I got up to see how much of a flucuation occurred and it was minimal for me and if I was able to sleep at least another 2-3 hours, my temp would be back to it's usual level by the time my alarm went off.
um no, I've been meaning to but haven't. I think you are fine to start, AF is supposed to arrive (or already have arrived
) so I'm thinking about starting to temp again now.
Is norah STTN? Lucy didn't until 6 mo and even then sometimes she will wake up but it is definitely plausible for me to start now.
Norah STTN most nights. She does better on nights I get her down before 9pm.
Thanks ladies for both of your inputs! I will start temping, I think it will put my mind at ease. I have already POAS! Yes, I am just that paranoid, while we are excited to have number 2, I am not wanting 2 under 2.
Don't worry, I POAS once myself. I think I even marked it on my chart for good measure.
If you want more info on the Sympto-Thermal method of NFP for breastfeeding, I don't mind photocopying the pages in my book and sending it out to you. It explains it way better than I can. I'm not sure if you want to use a back-up method or not. We did at first b/c we were paranoid, then we resorted to pulling out, and now that my charts are somewhat normal again we are relying on them.
I'm with ya! I can't wait to try for another one, but I really don't want 2u2. Especially, when I realized that my mom found out she was pregnant with me when my brother was Mariela's age! We are 15 months apart. Eek!
