Organizing magazine articles/catalog pages?

How do you organize magazine articles and pages from catalogs that you want to save.  I have torn them out of the magazines/catalogs because I don't see the point to saving the entire book for a few pages since they take up less space this way.  Now, I'm trying to figure out how to organize them.  I've thought about scanning them and saving on the computer, maybe putting them in three ring binders by topic, file folders, etc.  What do you do?  Does it work?

Of course, if I save them, in theory, I need to go back to them periodically and either do something about it or toss if I decide later I don't need it.

Re: Organizing magazine articles/catalog pages?

  • I have mine scanned and saved in categorized folders like "decorating ideas," "health," "skin care," etc. Then each one is named simply but specifically, like "ab exercises," "snowflake cookies," etc. I use them a lot more now that they're accessible and searchable.  When I used to keep them in binders, they would sit on the shelf unopened for months.
  • The magazines I look at are online versions, so I just save them from the website.  There might be a website listed on the pages you're interested in.

Where do you look at these online versions?  Are they the actual pages of the magazine or do you mean you read articles from the magazine's website?

  • Honestly, I used to have a binder that I never looked at. I didn't really enjoy the time suck that's scanning.

Now I'm really fussy in what I save and am down to one accordian file. I'm learning fast that if I just type in what I'm looking for it's on googl somewhere. :)

Oh, yes - I have also started saving the online version instead if one exists.  I do that for recipes too, since most magazine recipes are on line.

  • I taped mine to a sheet of paper and punched holes so I can put it in a 3 ring binder. I have plans to scan them someday.

  • I tear out the inspirational pics, recipes I want to try, etc. and file them away in my own little file categories in something like an accordion file. Then I get rid of the magazines.
  • I read articles from the magazine's website.  Sometimes you will find that the some of the articles in the hard copies are also available for read online too!
