This is bothering me so badly! A girl in Cooperstown killed herself yesterday morning. hung herself in her bedroom while her parents were sleeping. She was being bullied pretty terribly. I just keep thinking about how when we were in EGF school district, it was horrible for Skylar there. It was the same types of things. she's fat, she's ugly, the world would be better off without her, why doesn't she just die....those are all things we heard often. We had even gone in front of the school board when the principal did nothing about it. Seriously?! Do these kids have to resort to suicide in order to get away from it?!
I just keep thinking about how it could have been Sky. She went through a deep depression, was very moody and crabby and just seemed to hate life. This new school had been a TOTAL turnaround for her! She loves it, has tons of friends, and is a happy (although hormonal) preteen. I know I'm being irrational on this, but I've already had a talk with Sky NUMEROUS times over the past 3 years about how she hated feeling like that so to be sure she NEVER treats anyone else in the same way! This girl was 16 YEARS OLD and felt she had no other way out. It breaks my heart.
Maybe a part of it is that Cooper is a very small town close to where I grew up. I know many people from there still but did not know her. I hugged Skylar extra tight last night. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Re: I'm irrationally angry.
Wow, this just breaks my heart. People can be so cruel.
Ditto on all points. It breaks my heart that these kids feel this is the only option. :-(

I don't think you are irrationally angry. I can't imagine that being my child and her put in that position and feeling that was her only way out. Some people are just horrible and have parents that either don't know how rotten their children are, choose to ignore it or encourage them to be that way. It is very sad.
I was bullied in 7th and 8th grade really bad. I had an awesome mom who rallied for me. She got caller ID and had the phone company block calls from the girls that were harassing me. She contacted the school and fought to have me placed on a different schedule than them (our grade rotated on 4 different schedules). Years later I had one of them apologize, but it doesn't erase what they did to my self esteem.
