Sell me on Albequerque!!!
Out of towner here..... DH and I are researching potential places to vacation to celebrate our anniversary next year, and Albequerque, NM is on our short list. We were thinking of staying at a cute B&B or something....
Please sell me on your town! What kinds of things to see and do are there?? Any recommendations??
TIA!
Re: Sell me on Albequerque!!!
Albuquerque has a little bit of something for everyone. A lot of the activities in town are seasonal - like the Balloon Fiesta, skiing, bird watching, luminarias at Christmas, summer concert series, Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow, etc.
Albuquerque has a thriving cultural/arts scene. There are always Native american art exhibits, dances and lectures going on at both teh Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, ABQ Musuem and National Hispanic Cultural Center. You can see Native American Hoop Dances, world class flamenco and a salsa/jazz [erformance under the stars all in the same day. There are also lots of studios and galleries clustered in several neighborhoods - The North Valley/Ranchos de ALbuquerque; Nob Hill; Edo (East Downtown); Old Town are just a few. Plus, we have Petrogylphs National Monument and the Bosque Trail system - great places to hike, bike and bird watch.
For food, we have lots of family ownered and small resteraunts. There aren't as many chains here as in other cities. You can get New EMxican, several forms of Mexican, Peruvuan, Ethiopian, Spanish, Columbian, iraqi, Persian, etc. because of the agricultiral history of the area, we have several thriving farmer's markets that include live music and arts/crafts and lots of local farms.
My favorite B&B in ABQ is Los Poblanos up in the North Valley (http://www.lospoblanos.com/) and Casas de Suenos in Old Town (http://www.casasdesuenos.com/).
