I am not optomistic about O'ing this month

Last month was the first month I started temping and I was surprised at how nice my chart looked.  I have thyroid disease and am finally balanced medically and hormonally.  So far though no CM and my temps look different from last month and my body feels funky, I don't think I'm going to ovulate this month.  Hope you ladies don't mind me posting here....I've been on other boards but don't really like them too much.  Congrats to all those expecting :) looks like everyone is having boys :)

Re: I am not optomistic about O'ing this month

  • I know it's hard, but try not to get discouraged.  Personally I used the ovulation predictor kits.  I found temping really confusing and open to lots of interpretation , although I know charting is the "norm" on TN & TB boards.  I liked the "yes" or "no" answers you got from the OPK's. Yes, they're expensive, but so is having a kid :)

  • I actually kind of appreciate you posting on this board as I also find it difficult to fit in on some of the other boards. (I think I might recognize your name from one, otherwise it's just because of this board. I dont' know.)

I agree that it's extremely frusterating. Had my first official breakdown last weekend about it. What's your thyroid dx? I have hypothyroid and PCOS so maybe I can relate. This whole TTC thing is a roller coaster and I am sorry you're feeling down. There is nothing more helpless feeling than not O-ing because we aren't given a chance. I would rather be pissed about bad timing or something I had more control over. (((HUGS)))

Feel free to PM me any time if you feel weird about posting on other boards and need some support.

  • I kinda thought that I had some cycles that I didn't "O" so I started temping and got all excited that I actually did "O" last month.  But like I said in PP this cycle not so sure it's gonna happen, it still can, but I'm pretty in tuned with my body that I just kind of know.  I was diagnosed with Hyper thyroid, had radiation iodine treatment.....however my dr didn't change my meds even after asking ?'s about it.  My body went into crisis mode and started to shut down for about 6 months.  It was a struggle and now I'm back on track but I'm wondering if more damage was really done when not being properly medicated.  I have kaiser so changing Doctors isn't really an option.  the Doc had said that i would "highly be unlikely" for me to get preggers but I'm optimistic about it, at least trying to be.  anyhoo, thanks for the support, I haven't really told any of my friends or family that we are TTC.  So I just needed to vent my frustration.  thanks again :)
  • Does your doctor have anything else he can provide you besides the fact that he thinks it's highly unlikely you'll get pregnant? Way to lift a girl's spirits. Geez. Not that I am a huge fan of it, but like even an option of Clomid, or something to get you to O?

  • Hi Reese!  I just wanted to chime in since I have thyroid disease too (but I'm hypo).  Since being diagnosed about 7 years ago, I have come across a lot of girls my age who have thyroid issues too.  One of my friends had Grave's disease and went through the whole radiation thing and then eventually had her whole thyroid removed.  About a year after that, she got preggers and just had a second a few months ago.  I know everyone is different, but I hope it gives you some encouragement.  I'm not TTC yet, so I'm not really familiar with the whole charting thing, but good luck.  Sending vibes your way!

  • I agree with pp on not getting discouraged. It looks like several ladies here are able to relate to you on thyroid disease, so I'm glad that you have support here =) I don't have any experience in regards to that or to charting either, so I don't have much advice/suggestions to offer, but I just want to wish you the best + TTC vibes your way! A lot of us Hawaii nesties are on TheBump Hawaii too so you're also always welcome to join us over there in baby/TTC/pg talk as well =)

Ditto here.  I was only diagnosed after I had LO, but I had my thyroid checked several times in the past, and I was hypo then, but I guess they only recently changed the range where they treated people?  I'm still working on getting the dosage right.

This is what happened to me.  Temping and charting was way overwhelming for me so I didn't even bother.  I did the OPK and BOOM, BFP!  Turns out I was ovulating later than I was thinking I was.  I just used the Kroger brand OPK strips and they worked just fine.  It's really whatever you are comfortable with though.  Good luck :)

There isn't any real evidence that I can't get preggers, which is why I started temping so that I can take back some documentation that I am not ovulating.  I have a friend who was having a hard time getting pregnant, she was missing cycles all together and was put on clomid....she's due in January :)  I have kaiser and they are idiots as far as patient care.  It took me years to get on thyroid medication, I was diagnosed and my weight was going wonky but the doctors felt that I wasn't "that bad" even though my blood work was not normal.

After our honeymoon my foot was hurting and went to the Doctor to get it checked and they sent me home saying it was nothing.  3 months later after seeing Doctors they tell me I had a fracture then it was finally diagnosed as a nuroma and I had surgery....kaiser doc's are so wonky at least here on Maui.

Anyhoo, I don't miss periods and have had ultrasounds and everything "looks in good working order" so I need to show evidence in order for them to consider me for clomid.....I'm thinking by my 35th birthday in May I will further consult with the Doctors on my options if nothing happens.  Or I will just accept that my fur babies will be my only babies.

thanks ladies for the chit chat and support, I really apreciate it :)

  • I completely understand how you are feeling.  Doctors can be pretty discouraging.  I have Lupus and my doctor told me to "expect to have numerous miscarriages" while TTC.  It got me down at first but then I realized that everyone is different and many woman with Lupus dont miscarry and have perfectly healthy pregnancies.  I think you should think of yourself as "the exception" to the rule, which is what I have been doing for myself.  I am a big believer in positive thinking.  Dont listen to the doctor.... listen to your heart ;)

This to a T.  You can go to saveontests.com and buy OPK's and even pregnancy tests there. I bought a big pack of OPK's and pregnancy tests for less than $15.  I saved a ton of money by doing that (pregnancy tests are super $$ too).  Good luck :)
