Yesterday morning I woke up feeling horrible. With a sore throat, stiff neck, headache, and a fever. I spend most of the day sleeping. When DH went to work (he's a nurse) he called me and told me that I should come into the ER because mengingitis has been going around and after talking to a doctor I had all the symtoms. So I go in around 9pm and they run a whole battery of test. Two strep test, a flu test (which sucks, they stick a q- tip like thing up your nose into your sinus cavaty) took urine sample, chest X-ray, and two things of blood. All this time I was by myself with DH somewhere in the hospital working All of these test came back negative besides having a UTI, and elevated white cells.
The next thing is to test for meingitis, where they have to get a sample of spine fluid. DH finally has extra time to come see me and we decide that I should do the test. They do a head CT and then prep me for a lumbar puncture. Luckily someone from the ER went and covered for DH so he could hold my hand durning the procedure. I was horrible! It was extreme pressure on my spinal cord, its hard to descibe the feeling. But DH and the other nurse were really good. Talking about going on vacation and getting me cold wash clothes for my face ( I broke out into a cold, shaking sweat). The procedure took about 30 mins. Afterwards DH sat with me for a bit while they gave me IV fluids and antibiotics.
Eventully DH had to go back to work so I was waiting alone for my results to come back. Which all came back negative. But I had to wait for my IV fluids to finish because I was dehydrated. I finally left at 4:30. With they diagnosis for a viral sore throat and a UTI. And now a super sore back from the LP and brused arm from the IV.

I hope you're feeling better.
One of my husbands benefits through the hospital is that spouse and children get free care! DH just writes it off through payroll. So we paid didnt pay a dime for everything last night. Not too bad I'd say!
