It's Monday, so spill...

Yay for making it through the first week!  I'm still sitting at a little over 1100 words because I haven't written a thing since last Wednesday.  I'm not completely panicked about not finishing just yet because I'm farther along then I was last year.  Unfortunately, I'm dealing with some stuff at home that has to be taken care of first.  I hope to rebound a bit this week, but we shall see.

Now I toss this out to all of you:

What's your word count?

Challenges/victories now that the first week is over?

Re: It's Monday, so spill...

  • My word count total is 12,468.

This is the second time I've tried NaNoWriMo, and it's the farthest I've made it!  My own little personal victory came Saturday night.  I'd had a really rough day dealing with some crazy sh!t thanks to my mom and just wasn't feeling like writing.  I was so close to 10,000 words and really wanted to hit that mark.  I debated for awhile on whether or not to write.  I figured since my heart wasn't in it, it would just be crap.  It was late that night when I finally decided to just do it.  I'd taken a nap, watched lame TV shows, played Farmville and Frontierville (don't laugh, I love them), and finally decided it was time.  I didn't write much that night, but I hit over 10,000 words.  I was very proud of myself.

I wasn't able to even think about writing over the weekend. I am going to shoot for 2500 words every day this week to get back on track, but it's tough.

i'm starting to have doubts, and i'm feeling down about it. like, what's the point... ugh. must.keep.going.

also, i hate writing dialogue b/c of the punctuation.

  • Ugh. See my siggy for my word count

I'm having a super hard time getting in to this. And it doesn't help that I have a couple other projects I'd rather be working on :)

  • I'm sitting at 12,544, which I'm really happy with considering this weekend I managed a grand total of 600 words.  My goal is to kick some ass and break 15K by the end of today.

Ashlee - I hate dialogue too.  Do what I do - just write it out, no punctuation, no tags (he said, she said, etc.).  Just get their conversation out and onto the paper.  Going back to fix punctuation is an easy fix, and I've found it really liberating to just write the words I want them to say and not worry about it looking pretty at the moment.

  • 9,116.  I'm so close to 10,000, but I just couldn't get myself truly motivated last night.  I'm only on the third scene of my novel though and I've still got plenty more outlined, so I feel good about my plot this year.  Really what I'm having the hardest time with is transition from scene to scene.

    Good luck everyone!

  • 8,224 words.  I didn't write all weekend.  I think I hit a block.  However, I actually got words on the page this year so that's major progress right there.
  • 12,727 and about to start today's writing session.

I'm really enjoying just letting this story tell itself. My characters are surprising the hell out of me and it's a nice change of scene from the story I've been revising for the last year.

  • Groan. I am only at 696. I am only shooting for 10,000 this month though. I write slowly and draft longhand, so this is decent progress for me. Obviously, I have to pick up the pace, even to meet my goal. Congrats to everyone for all of their progress!
