all I can do is laugh

We got our vehicle registration stickers in the mail, so Mr. Shamwow thought he'd be really awesome and go put them on our cars today.  I saw him about to walk out the door with a screwdriver in his hand and asked him politely to please not scratch the hell out of my windshield with that tool, and then found the box cutter razor blade thingy out of the tool box for him to use instead (even though I don't remember really needing one last year when I replaced it, but whatev).

He was outside for an abnormally long time, and even came back in saying something about how he was never going to get all that sticker off the windshield yada yada (I was cleaning, so not really listening intently).

When he eventually came in for good he said "well....I have good news and I have bad news".  He had accidentally removed the inspection sticker instead of the old registration sticker.  He did this on not one, but BOTH cars.

After I recovered from the initial shock and confusion, I nearly peed my pants laughing.  I asked him how the eff he managed that, and especially how he managed to make the same "oops" on both vehicles before realizing his mistake.  His response was "I'M NOT A CAR GUY, I'M SORRY!"

  • What was his good news?

He IS kind of cute too.

  • He hadn't yet attempted to put the new registration stickers on, so at least those weren't fouled up.  Also, his inspection was up at the end of this month and mine would have been up in January.

I kinda wish I had taken a picture of the sticky smeary mess that was left on my windshield after his ordeal.  But he promptly took it to get an inspection and the guy cleaned it all up and put the new stickers (both of them) on for us.

Yeah.  Do you just put yours on your polar bear?

  • Ofcourse!

We put ours on our plate.

  • Mr. Shamwow makes me laugh.

I think Texas is the only state where I've noticed them on the windshield and not on the license plate. Weirdos. Why don't you just secede already?

I think NJ had them on the windshield? I forget. Maybe CT did? All I know is MA has them on the license plate. The last digit of your license plate also denotes what month your reg expires. They don't issue new registration in Nov or Dec so 1 and 2 mean Jan and Feb.

  • I love Mr. Shamwow.

NY goes on the windshield, too!

  • We don't even have inspection stickers here.  I remember when I moved here trying to figure out how to get my car inspected and it took me forever to figure out that they don't require it.  Gotta love Florida!  Seriously, you should see some of the busted ass cars on the road here.

  • We don't have inspection stickers either. In order to get your plate stickers you need to have your inspection done (if required).

That's how they do it here too. And in Washington. Weirdo east coast states with your silly inspection stickers. And weirdo Texas, of course.

  • We're the same way as Washington.  You don't get your stickers if you don't pass inspection.  We were just talking about the cost of registration on the way into work.  Mr. Spiderman said that when he lived in Indy and California, the amount was based on the value of your car.  It's just a flat rate across the board in Oregon.

  • They changed Washington to a flat rate sometime before I moved (thanks to crazy ballot initiative *** Tim Eyeman)...somewhere in the $30 range? But counties and cities could tack fees on to that as well. I know I paid more living in Seattle than my mom did living in unincorporated King County, despite the flat rate

That's how AZ does it, too. It cost like $300 to register my car for ONE YEAR in AZ because it was only 2 years old. And yet you don't have to renew your license until your 65th birthday...AZ is stupid.

  • Reading the OP I felt really stupid trying to figure out why he needed a screw driver and other tools for the stickers. They just go on the plates in OH too.
