Yesterday DH and I bought a bunch of new furniture for our new home. It was such a fun day! Then this morning I wake up and see that our bank account was charged a $30 "excessive withdrawal fee". WTF?! Isn't it our money to spend?? I've heard of there being limits on how much you can spend on your debit card in a day, but I know our limit so I was sure not to exceed that. Ugh, I'm just frustrated. Now I will have to call the bank, and I'm sure it might not be the most pleasant phone call...
Re: Stupid Bank!
What?!?!? That is insane...I've never heard of that. I hope you get that resolved because that is so annoying. Here you are using your own money instead of racking up a credit card and you get penalized for it!

I love you, Daddy...2/24/1953 to 2/13/2011
It may depend on what kind of checking account you have. Most banks have student accounts, free accounts, etc. The really basic accounts often impose limits in a day. I know DH's card is about 300. He tried to use it for tires on his truck last year (about $600), and the card got declined even though we knew the money was there. His mom works at the bank, so we called her....yup, over the limit. So we put it on the credit card and then paid the bill immediately. As far as I know, it really is pretty common, and is often a flat rate, rather than based off the amount in the account.
HTH and hope the phone calls goes well!
Wow, that is very annoying!! I would definitely call them! If you didn't exceed your limit, it doesn't make sense for them to give you a fee.
I know our bank has those kinds of limitations, but we can each charge that amount on our separate cards, and I know when we bought our couches, we just called and had them raise our limit for that specific purchase, before we bought it.
