A Heartwarming Video

I came across this on youtube (from my childhood), from the movie Polly Comin' Home, based on the book Pollyanna.

The (slightly long) premise:

A town divided in the early 60s in the South. The town was previously split -- the white part of town had a white racist mayor, the black part had a black mayor. The town rebuilt a bridge that hard burned down years ago and came together. (that was part I)

In part 2: the white mayor dies and the town decides to hold an election: the black male Mayor Mr. Warren (a first for the town) or a white female Mayor Ms. Snow (also a first).

After the vote, there is a tie. Young Polly (Keisha Knight Pullam), who was told by Ms. Snow's campaign manager that she would carry on the same policy as the previous mayor, was brokenhearted.

This song is what happens at Church following the election.

Enjoy!

  • If you want to see the end of part one -- where the town rebuilds the bridge and Polly, who fell out of a tree and crushed her spine, is able to walk and cut the ribbon, click here (it always makes me cry).
