Day 26 ? Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?

I never have.  When I was 13 a very good friend committed suicide and I saw what that did to his family and friends and I knew I could never do that.  I'm also very glad I've never battled with depression in that manner so things feel that bleak.  I've had my dark times, but I've always known that somewhere there would be a light at the end of the tunnel for me.

Re: Day 26 ? Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?

  • Never. I value my own life too much, and nothing would ever be worth taking it. I view suicide as very selfish.

I'm sorry if that offends anybody.

  • I've never thought of giving up on life, I love life even in my darkest times, giving up on life wouldn't be fair to myself, friends or family.

You can flame if you want but I think committing suicide is weak and the easy way out, the only time I defend this is if you are sick with a terminal illness.

    Agreed.

  • I am way too stubborn and too much of a fighter to ever give up. I have lived through a lot in my 30 years and most of that time it was in misery because of my home life from being born to teen parents, living in poverty, being in the military, living through the abuse as a child and then marrying an abusive person to leaving and starting over with nothing as a single mom. All this before I was 24. Through all this I struggled through and made a point of showing myself I can triumph. Unfortunately my sister is not as strong. She has tried to commit suicide and suffers from severe depression over our childhood. Somehow I turned out differently.

  • No, I never have. I had a best friend try to commit suicide when her father was near the end of his life.

    It was terrible.

I've had some dark times but nothing has ever made me even contemplate taking my life.

  • During some dark periods of my time (read: teenager), I had thought about it & wonder what it would be like w/o me on this earth but I never would follow through. If you call that selfish so be it but it was during my teenager years and during those times, I thought that would be the end of the world.

Now, if you asked me NOW if I would take my life. Never in a million years. Even during last year when it was one shiitty thing after another, I was able to get through it.

I am sorry for those who had friends and family members commit suicide. It breaks my heart hearing about this.
