Anyone had an IUD expelled?

I've had my Paragard for 4 years, and just found out today that it's partially expelled, and sitting low in my cervix instead of in my uterus where it belongs. Since it's useless and dangerous for it to be where it is, I have to have it taken out, and my doctor isn't sure she'll be able to get it out in the office, so I might have to go to the hospital for outpatient surgery to get it removed.

I had thought I was pregnant and miscarried in August/September, but convinced myself that it was nearly impossible because of the IUD, but I guess it doesn't really work that way when the damn thing isn't working.

Re: Anyone had an IUD expelled?

  • My IUD was not expelled, it slipped INTO my uterus and rotated, causing tons of pain and lots of blood, and some fun emergency surgery. They said that it is really rare complication. I had the 10 year one (mirena? I think) though, which is in a T shape. I am not up to speed on your particular IUD lol

Needless to say, I didn't have one put back in Surprise

  • My IUD did the same thing and I had it removed. Before she removed it my doctor said she thought maybe the strings were too long. But once she actually saw it, she said the strings were way too short and thats why it was hurting DH (he bled!). It had moved from the very top of my ute to my cervix.

I had the same thing  with the possible pregnancy also. I got 2 false positives on different tests. I wondered the same thing about a possible m/c once I realized the problem with the IUD location. I also obviously did NOT have another one inserted!

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • That was it with mine too. My boyfriend at the time was um...blessed down there, and could feel the strings. So we had them cut shorter, and that's why it slipped in. Another vote for not-hung-like-a-genetically-altered-bull guys!
