Sorry but I'm being such a PW today.
Anyhow, I'm baking an Apple Crumb Pie and need to know which are the best apples for apple pie? I'm thinking about using granny smith. How about red delicious?

Re: Apple Pie?
Sorry, this is totally off topic but I had to come in here and say that that's my puppy's name - Apple Pie.
She has a greek Pi symbol on her chest. We call her Apple for short. See it? This is her right after she got back from the strip club.

Whenever I've made something like this, I don't use red delicious. I just don't think they add enough flavor. I just found this about apples and pies so this might be helpful.
"Among the really good pie apples are Jonathan, Stayman-Winesap, Cox's Orange Pippin, and Jonagold, all of which provide a good mix of sweetness and tartness. Other sweet choices are Braeburn, Fuji, Mutsu, Pink Lady, Suncrisp, Rome Beauty, and Empire. Good tart baking apples include Idared, Macoun, Newton Pippin, and Northern Spy. "
I've always baked my apple pies with granny smiths so I'm no help with how other apples would turn out. Other kinds probably wouldn't taste too different, but the baking rate might differ as well as consistency...maybe?
I made a crock pot apple crisp the other week with pink lady apples instead of granny smiths and that turned out the sameway.
I have no comment for apple types, seeing as how all apple pie makes me want to vomit.
I just had to say that Alicia's dog is absolutely adorable and I love the pi symbol!!
How am I the only one to comment on the fact that Alicia's dog came back from the strip club with what appears to be $100 bills? I'm insanely curious to know what Pi was doing to earn that kinda money and not just $1's.
And as for real apple pie, I used 3/4 granny smith and 1/4 of something else, usually macintosh. I've used red delicious before but with it being such a small amount I really couldn't tell if it made a difference to the recipe or not.

Apple Pie is adorable. Makes me want a puppy but we can't have pets
I usually use granny smith, but thought I might want to mix it up. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it...so I'll stick with the granny.
I'm sorry this is late but the best apple pie apples are (Hands down) MacIntosh or Courtland!!!! I bake apple pie all of the time and it's mandatory for our yearly work gathering at Halloween....I've tried other apples but these are definitely the BEST apples!!!
I hope I'm not too late!
xxoo
Pamela "Apple Pi" Chomlowski is a very dirty firl. She won't tell us what she does at the strip club. She does have a lot of boyfriends though.
I'm not sure how she does it considering she's kinda funny looking.
