This week's topic: Why are you thankful for your parents/siblings?
Re: Thankful Tuesday
Mel - I love the "topic"! Great idea :-)
Let's see...I don' think there is enough rooom for why I am thankful for my Mom! She and I were recently talking about the years when I was growing up, and I told her that I loved her for always making sure that we (my brother, sister and I) were safe, comfortable and loved while we were coming up. There are so many kids who sadly, seem to be let down by the very ones who should be making a good life for them. I don't take for granted the upbringing that my Mom provided for me. My parents divorced when I was 10, and so she did pretty much all of the heavy lifting by herself, while completing her degrees (she has 3), and working full-time. She is surely my hero (ine)!
Oh there is NOT enough space for this! My mom as you know recently had surgery so I wasn't able to talk to her for a few days and it was excrutiating how much I missed our daily chats. The #1 reason I am thankful for my mom is because she will answer the phone at any hour of the morning, day or night and talk to me about whatever may be going on. We are not the type to share everything and I wouldn't consider her my bff like some people do, but she is just always there. The woman has a gift for calming me down and saying exactly the right thing. That's only one reason -- she also brought me up amazingly and gave me everything I needed without ever giving me too much.
I'm thankful for my sister because she always says I love you, always makes me laugh and gave me 2 nephews and a niece that can bring a smile to my face anytime I think of them!
I'm thankful for my parents because they always do so much for us - not just my sister and me but my H and BIL as well. And whenever they do us favors, lend us money, etc. they never expect anything in return. I'm thankful that they're good people and have always shown love and support and taught us right from wrong. All those childhood years of saying "mom is mean" paid off when I didn't end up on drugs or KU at 15 or in prison.
I'm thankful for my sister because it was nice having another kid to grow up with and fight with and play with and stick up for each other. We grew closer once she went away to school (I commuted) because we weren't in each other's faces all the time. LOL And I have a great BIL too and am thankful fate brought them together!

I'm also thankful for my Dad for imparting to me two of my favorite loves: Football and Music! I also inherited his happy go lucky, optimistic outlook on things. He was a very popular radio and club DJ, with season tix to the Orioles and Colts, and spending summers with him after the divorce was like an eternal vacation...He has always been a free spirit, with a good heart. Maybe not the best marriage material for Mom, but he loved us and my Mom (they are still very good friends, after 31 years of being divorced!), and I know for sure that I get my outgoing personality and artistic leanings from him :-)
I am thankful for my mom for her understanding and her support. I am really thankful for her ablitiy to hand situations without breaking down. This is what I watched as I grew-up and how I was able to hold it together until after I left my parents' house Saturday...
I am thankful for my sister for the deep friendship that we have. We could never live together, but we know that we would do anything and everything we could for each other. She has been my sounding board for many things and has helped me through many situations that I would have thrown my hands up at.
I am thankful that my parents taught me to love and not hate, to accept and not judge, to share and not own, and to pursue both knowledge and spirituality!
I am thankful that I am so close to my mom, dad, and brother (even though we live 3000+ miles from each other)! I'm thankful that we can talk several times a week and I can always count on them when I have a question or problem. I am thankful that they encouraged my brother and I to pursue our dreams and they encouraged us to always stay optimistic.

I am so extremely thankful for my parents - especially with everything that just happened with DH's mom. We unexpectedly left St. Louis to drive to Kansas City (about a 4 hour drive) on a Tuesday. My parents drove down that night (about 1 1/2 hour drive) to pick up our dogs for us and then drove back home. They kept the dogs for 2 weeks while we were going back and forth with the funeral and everything.
They also sent flowers, cards, well wishes, and even lent us money so we could cover the cemetery costs since the life insurance money hadn't come in yet. I know this is just about the things that have happened recently in my life, but even with the wedding they are simply amazing. I am extremely blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.
I'm super thankful for my sister who was an amazing MOH and I'm SO glad that we are so close. We had our differences as kids esp when we had to share a bathroom
Once I went away to college we grew up and started becoming much closer. She's just fun to be around and a great person!
I'm thankful for both of my parents for all they provided for me starting as a kid through college and our wedding. My dad was always at the games/shows/concerts and for someone who worked long hours that wasnt' always easy but he was always there. My mom is the best. She taught me to cook and sew and I can always call her when I'm having a bad day she's talked me down off more then one freak out haha
Great topic!
My parents are two of the most amazing people in the world. They would drop everything for us at any given moment and have been so supportive of DH and I. They are letting us live back at home rent free, and dad even built a mini apartment so we would feel like we had our own space. They are caring and fun and just all around wonderful.
My brother is a character. The kid makes me laugh so so much. He is only 21 compared to my 24 so we were not always close, but have gotten much closer over the years. I am very thankful for this because we have a blast when we are together. I also know that he has my back, even though he is my little brother.
Loooove my fam.
I am thankful for the wonderful life my parents provided for me as a kid. My dad worked hard so my mom could work part time her entire life, so she could take care of us before and after school. She picked us up from school and was always there for anything, made us dinner every night, never made us do chores, and saved her money from work to put towards our awesome family vacations every summer. She was very loving and protective, which at times made her prone to saying "no"; however my dad was her perfect complement and so we'd talk to him first, then he would present our requests to her in such a way she'd agree. They never would go against each other and always were a wonderful example of a happily married couple, which I will always be grateful for and attempt to have my marriage be anything close to what theirs was. My dad is continuously generous and a wealth of knowledge he wants to share. I have always been "Daddy's little girl" and am so glad he's around (hopefully for a while). He keeps an eye on my grandma (his mom-who's 90!) whom I love dearly, and tries to get her out of the house to visit her family (and goes with her when she agrees). He's retired so he has the time to do whatever he wants!
My brothers are pretty cool (both older)- the oldest one is the easy going relaxed one. I feel I could talk to him about anything. My SIL is really very nice and has wonderful intentions on being a mom to my nephew. (Sometimes IMHO she's a little over the top but, my bro is like her complement and chills her out) The "other brother" had always been my enemy as a kid, as we grew up he became more tolerable. I know he'd be there if I needed him- heck he punched a friend of his who was making fun of me on the bus! :-) (don't worry he didn't hurt him bad- just enough to make his point)
