Welcome Back MissyNa Randoms.

I made apple pie. That is all for now. Thank you

Re: Welcome Back MissyNa Randoms.

  • I made 5 apple crisps this weekend, and the first one is almost gone :ninja:
  • Oh man, all this talk of food is making me hungry!  I didn't bring a lunch today either, so I have to go out.  Not sure what I want.

  • I would love a grilled cheese on sourdough, but my diet wouldn't allow me to eat for the rest of the day.
  • Yum! Apple pie! Apple Crisp! Grilled Cheese! All of it sounds good! LOL!

  • I have some how ended up with 3 5# bags of flour. hmmm I think I have some baking to do. 1 Bag of flour has a best used by date of 11-16-10. Bread anyone?
  • I brought sheppards pie for lunch  ymmm!

  • I just had Zoup! for lunch.  Delish!

  • I just analyzed our energy usage at our new house using the DTE analyzer, and I got "Congratulations!  Your home used less energy than most of the similar homes in your area."

    Party!!!

Our old house would have gotten "Holy sh!t!  Turn your heat off and use loads of blankets, sweatshirts, sleeping bags...anything!  Your house is an inefficient as they come!  You energy sucker, you!"

It's really amazing what good windows, a high efficiency furnace and good insulation does to your heating bill.  We need to replace the windows and buy a new furnace for that old house SO badly.

Oh yummy.  I wish we had one nearby.

  • white Kitchen Aid mixer only goes one speed - ultra fast.  It will cost $100 to fix this.  I really want a silver one.  DH really wants a bigger bowl.  I told him only bad stuff comes from mixers (i.e., baked goods) so is it worth it.  But, in the end, decided to replace it with a silver one.

I'm getting the Droid in the next few days.  Still trying to decide on the 2 or X.  Not sure if I can learn how to type (FAST) on that touch screen...

    I really love fountain pop.

  • Mmm, apple pie.

I made Smushed Apples and Sweet Potatoes last night, kind of as a dessert.  I only used 2 T. of sugar and probably could have used less.  So yummy!  I think I might make this for my family Thanksgiving as a replacement for the less healthy sweet potato casserole.

Andy was helping a friend with a roof on Sunday and he had a work function last night - so in the past 2 days I cooked up 7 different recipes - mainly out of boredom. :-P

I'm jealous. I used to go there all the time when they were on Alpine Ave. What did you have?

  • I'm planning a teeny little surprise for Andy's bday.  I effing love surprises, and it gets me giddy just working out the logistics.

Basically we're driving to Milwaukee for the weekend, passing through Chicago on Thursday night.  His sister and best friend live there, so they're going to meet us at a brewery as a surprise.  Nothing big, but I still have fun planning!

  • So Nick's mom says she plans on having us over to their house for Thanksgiving  Hmm  First of all if SIL is there, I'm NOT going.  She's a HUGE drama queen and has yet to have a civilized holiday.  And secondly, MIL's kitchen is TINY, her oven is even tiny!  She can't cook more than one thing at a time.   Plus she rarely cooks for more than 2 people so she's going to be stressed out, making Step-FIL stressed out.  Oy.  This is why I like hosting.  There's plenty of room, the food is good, and everyone behaves themself.

Can you pull of just showing up for dinner?

Arrive 5 minutes after dinner starts: " Hey fam, sorry we're late, traffic was bad, pass the potatoes!"

Leave 5 minutes after dinner ends: "Oh, I think I left my curling iron on!  Better go make sure the house didn't burn down!  Later dudes!"

Or, perhaps a more tactful approach - offer to make a dish or two to destress the MIL and put on your grityourteethhappybutZOMGI'msogonnabitchaboutyoutoNicklater face with the SIL?

Haha.  We probably will do just dinner.  And we live less than 3 miles from his mom so a traffic excuse wouldn't work.  That made me giggle.  I probably will offer to make all the sides.  I hope she accepts.  And SIL won't fight with me (I won't say anything to her either), she knows better Angel, she and step-FIL will fight.  Ack.

  • Holidays aren't stressful enough dealing with family that is annoying... you also need to be crammed into a small area with no elbow room and the seating arrangement always puts you directly next to or across from the relative that you dislike the most.

The small oven thing sucks, too.  It's good that you're willing to do work and make stuff to bring even though you aren't hosting.  Divide and conquer is definitely probably your best bet at everything being ready at the same time - then you can put the oven on 350 and just put everything that everyone brought in for a few minutes just to reheat if it cooled on transport from your house to theirs.
