Woo hoo!!! Potentially good news!!

Adam sent me a text which made me excited and so now I'm awake, which could potentially be bad for tonight, but I'll try to go back to sleep.

So the good news:  Adam's work is switching insurance companies!!  Why is that good news??  Because it allows him to make changes in his insurance, ie, add someone!!  This is the loop hole I've been looking for, because I wasn't sure that I could get on his insurance since we passed the period for changes after we got married!

And that means that I can go to school full time if I get in!!  And I can quit my full time job and stop doing nights and weekends and holidays!!  I can work just 4 days a week and still make more than I make now!!

I'm not a praying person (though sometimes I sneak one in in case God wants to listen and answer something), but please pray this works out for us!!  This would be huge!!!

On the sucky side:  I think I'm getting a cold.  It started last night and since I'm temping for charting, I took my temp and it was 98.34, which is super high for me, especially for a basal temp.

Re: Woo hoo!!! Potentially good news!!

  • Question though, you guys are going to start TTC in Feb, right?  If you get put on his insurance right now, will it cover maternity stuff?  I know that with my insurance, you have to be covered for a year before they'll pay for any maternity medical bills.

  • Hmm, I'm not sure.  I hope that's not the case.  That would be super disapointing.  I could imagine there would be a waiting period if I didn't have any insurance at all right now, but I don't have any lapses in coverage.  I hope that's not it.  ***.

  • Maybe it'll be different because it's a company wide change and not just him adding me??

  • I would definitely look into it.  See if he can get a copy of his benefits beforehand.

I really hope that's not the case for you, and I didn't mean to get you worried, but I wanted to make sure that you look into it before you make any major career changes, etc.

  • Get him to talk to HR and see if he can track down who the insurance rep is to ask them about it.

  • He said that HR and the reps are scheduling appts toward the end of the month, and he'll get some info beforehand so we can go over things.

Thanks for mentioning that, because I wouldn't have thought about that (obviously).  Ugh, I really hope that's not it.

  • Yay! That's awesome if it works out like you're hoping!
  • That would be awesome!!! I can't imagine why they would have a waiting period for maternity costs- damn insurance companies! I hope everything works out!

  • That's great news Becky! I'm totally late on this, but thought I would chime in anyhow.

In Illinois, group health plans must cover pre-natal care for the mother (if enrolled), as well as the birth of the child, and there is no pre-existing exclusion allowed. There is a federal law mandating coverage for the same, although state laws vary in what they mandate for group plans based in their states.

All of that said, if a plan is 100% self-funded, they get to do just about whatever they want with their plan design. So definitely check out what's what with Gary's plan.  I did find the info below. You might check into the link to see what else you can find for North Carolina. This is more about coverage for baby after birth, but should head you in the right direction. I just don't have time to look at it all or I would've done the research for you. Smile

North Carolina requires insurance companies to provide coverage in certain circumstances. This includes coverage for a newborn child under his parents' policy for at least 30 days following birth.
