Good News with Salt POLL

On Saturday, I passed out and ended up in the ER.  They were unsure what exactly happened and so I was referred to the cardiologist.  He was gave my heart the all-clear Party!!! and diagnosed with a syndrome that can be controlled with lifestyle changes.  If those don't work, then I'll need medicine but we're hoping I won't need it.  One of the things I need to start doing is eating more salt.  Weird to hear that from a cardiologist, but it is worth a try to not pass out!

So, what is your favorite salty snacks?  You get extra points for salty and healthy snacks!

Re: Good News with Salt POLL

  • My father-in-law recently passed out and they said it resulted from his sodium levels being too low as well.

    what about pretzels?

  • Glad you're ok! I like almonds, well pretty much any nut, but almonds are really good for you. I also like pretzels, light string cheese (all cheese really, but you said healthy), and RF Triscuits. Also, there's a bunch of organic frozen food options that are quite healthy, but have a lot of sodium in them. CedarLane & Amy's are two brands I like.
  • Goldfish or pretzels.

  • My goodness, I'm glad that nothing major was wrong!

A few months ago I was reading in Consumer Reports about foods that were surprisingly high in salt. Two I can remember that aren't particulary unhealthy are cottage cheese and Ken's reduced fat Cesar dressing.

  • EA--I'm very glad that nothing major was wrong.  You must have been scared!!

Unfortunately, I don't really look at sodium levels....so I don't really know what's high or low.  Good luck though!  (and in a pinch, apparently mustards are a good go-to.  My DH uses mustard packets for cramping athletes.)

  • salted popcorn. soy sauce has lots of sodium in it.

    Glad you are okay.

  • Glad everything was okay with your heart - how scary!

I love nuts, and how about canned soup?  I love those Campbell's soup at hand soups but they always have sooo much sodium - even the 25% less sodium ones!

  • Wow, that sounds scary but hopefully the lifestyle changes do the trick.

I love salt (probably a little too much) & love salting my apples & watermelon slices. Also, peanuts, pretzels, pumpkin seeds, Pringles or popcorn 100 calorie packs, chex mix, and beef jerky.

    Wallace is a big brother!
