Charm City Cakes!  Mary was in charge of our consultation, but we saw Geoff and the other guy whose name I don't remember that's kind of wacky.  The cake isn't until May 2012 though, it's a long time to wait!

  • :-( I'm jealous.  But that must've been an awesome way to spend a few hours of your afternoon!

  • Ferdy - yeah, it's ridiculous.  We considered doing Jeff's groom's cake there for a nanosecond, but a year out they were already booked.  Not like it mattered, because they have a $1k minimum and no way would I pay that.

If work is paying, though, I can get excited.

  • Niiiice!  I was thinking about that the other day, wondering if you made it on TV or not. :-)  And a $1k minimum?  For cake?  Holy shitbiscuits!

  • That also just made me think of Georgetown Cupcakes - ever since they put that stupid show on TV, people line up for HOURS to buy cupcakes.

We were down in G-town a couple of weeks ago, and BIL's friend stood in line for over an hour, barely moved in line and then they closed and turned everyone in line away.  And their cupcakes aren't even that good.

They also bring cupcakes into our cafeteria at work twice a month and people will literally fight over the last cupcakes here.  It's ridiculous.

  • Honestly, the carrot cake from the place that made our wedding cake was way better than CCC's.  I was sort of surprised, since our consultant said that most people's favorite is the carrot (she doesn't like carrot cake).  That's why I chose to taste that sample.  It wasn't even in the top 20 carrot cakes I've had. My first thought was, "This is not worth $1000."

I do think the designs are cool, and it's a fun show to watch.  And it's not their fault that they got skyrocketed to fame, so the comparisons to other bakeries aren't exactly fair.  But I'm really happy with our bakery, even more so now.  And it's not like they HAVE to charge a lot, just because they can now that they're famous.

I like the Georgetown cupcakes show, though I've only seen it a few times.  I would never stand in line for cupcakes, though, TV show or not! The bakery Sweet in Ellicot City was on Cupcake Wars on Food Network, I've thought about checking them out.

  • Completely agree that its a neat show, but never in a million years would I spend that kind of money on cake.

So is it sad that when I read the title of the post I immediately thought "hmm, I wonder if this was the day she went to CCC." I can't remember to bring my coffee cup to work on a regular basis, but I can remember knot/nest stuff.
