What are you getting your tough-to-shop-for people for Christmas?

I always have FITS trying to figure out what to get for my dad. He's not really into all of the typical "dad" gifts (like ties, or golfing, or fishing) so he's usually the one I spend the most time puzzling over each year. I've done the beer of the month club so many times that it's hilarious, too. What are your tricky giftees?

Re: What are you getting your tough-to-shop-for people for Christmas?

  • I think my step-dad and DH are the most difficult to buy for.  My step-dad is into electronics/gadgets and movies lately, but he's still hard to buy for!  Plus, his birthday is early December so once I come up with some brilliant bday gift I've gotta turn around and think of a Christmas present....yeah, I've got nothin' so far.  I always ask my mom for ideas and she never has any, lots of help she is Stick out tongue

However, my mom actually gave me an idea for what to get DH.  She called last week and asked if he would like a Northface jacket.  So her idea gave me the idea to maybe get him some gloves and/or hat.  Between the winter hunting he does and how much he works outside, he appreciates being warm Smile  I need to come up with a little something else, but I'm happy to have some ideas at this point.
  • A gift card to Penzey's spices packaged with a catalogue (at least for people who enjoy cooking/eating.)

  • Check out Eddie Bauer. I was in there last night, and they have some REALLY cool stuff! I was shocked!

One thing I'm definitely getting someone (DH for sure, maybe Mom and Dad) is an ice scraper that's actually in a giant mitten to keep your hands warm and keeps you from getting ice all over yourself. Whoever thought of that was a freakin' genius... and apparently next week they'll be on sale for $9.99.

  • When I wasn't married and didn't know how to manage money, I went ALL OUT on gifts for people... digital camera for my sister, huge spa package for my mom, hell... I got an ex-boyfriends sister a brand new 4-in-1 crib one year.

Now, it's usually all we can afford to give people my framed photography.  Who knows if people actually like it or whatever, but... it's what they get.  :)

  • My step-dad, FIL and my step-brother are my toughest ones.  We decided with my mom and step-dad not to buy for each other this year, so that knocks one out.  We're also trying out a fun thing with our adult siblings to only buy for each other from thrift stores, so I don't know if that will make it easier or harder to find something for my step-brother.  I still have no idea what to get FIL - our go-to gifts for him are button-up shirts or OU stuff.
  • My dad is by far the hardest to shop for. He never drops hints and wants things that my mom says he can't have until they remodel the house [like a game room, or a huge recliner]. Honestly, it's easier to shop for him when he's overseas, because he wants the little things at that point. Our go-to stuff is always OSU stuff.

This year, I'm making him a photo book. I'm not sure what else I'm getting him - maybe an OSU hoodie since the weather's turning cold over there.

  • DH is always my hardest. Always during the year if he wants something then he goes out and buys it. We don't spend alot on gifts for eachother. So most of the time I end up getting him new boxers, socks, and a some nice shirts he can wear to work. Occasionally he'll actually ask for something but I do like to surprise him sometimes.

Oh man. That's a really good idea. Will you tell me when they go on sale?

  • My mom is thinking of moving into a new house and we bought her an oriental rug, for dh... who knows? He is really difficult and just recently said he didn't want Iphone 4 because he wanted them to come out with another, yeah... I know.

For my other siblings I am going to get them a few bottles of wine once I am in Europe for Thanksgiving.

  • My dad is the hardest person to shop for.  I have no clue what we're getting him this year.  We usually get him something fishing or golf related if we know of something he wants (or a Bass Pro gift card).  Our other option is to go with something funny.  Last year I got him a Barack Obama collector's plate and it was hilarious (we are very conservative).

If you have someone to buy for who isn't from your area you could get them something made there.  I always get my dad a gallon of Head Country barbecue sauce from Sam's becaues he can't get it in Missouri where he lives.

Your H will love a Northface jacket. I just bougth myself one about a month and go and I LOVE the thing. That is a great gift idea.

Back to the question-Chad is the hardest for me. We pretty much whatever we want so there isn't much left for us to buy for each other. Last year I bought him Oakley sunglasses and a magnetic Sabona bracelet that he has been wanting and he got me Brighton sunglasses and UGG's. I am totally lost on what to get him this year though. My dad is the next; he is very anal about power tools-he only buys a certain brand which is usually out of my price range so last year I got him a western star wind thingy to put on their front porch.

  • H's dad is the hardest to shop for. It's not that he doesn't let us know what he wants. The problems are:

    1. He asks for things that are way too expensive.

    2. He buys the items anyways even knowing it's a Xmas present he requested.

H and I have gotten to where we wait until literally the weekend before to buy for him. Personally, I think we should just buy the gift anyways and if he bought it anyways, then he can deal with taking it back, but H feels bad when that happens so he waits until the last minute to buy anything for his dad.
