Expensive gas Wednesday randoms

I guess I don't know where I have been, but I was shocked when I paid $3.09 for gas this morning.  Surprise

Re: Expensive gas Wednesday randoms

  • Morning!

Stupid gas. Remember the uproar a few years ago when gas increased, and they were saying it was going to get over $7/gallon? I'm glad that never happened.

It's been a long week so far full of ups and downs. I found out on Sunday that one of the girls from my ann. board had to give birth to her triplets prematurely, and they lost all three babies. :( I know it's just someone I "met" on the internet, but we're pretty close, and we met up once irl in Chicago. My heart is breaking for her and her husband. But, the good in this situation is that I put together a donation fund for them, and let all the girls on the board know, and so far we have over $700 donated. Such an amazing group of generous and loving women... it makes me really proud to "know" them all. With the money, I just bought this sculpture: Unity Family of Five, in the neutral color that's shown in the second to last picture, we're going to put some of it on a GC to Whole Foods so they can keep themselves fed without having to go out to a restaurant, and the rest of the money we're donating to March of Dimes in memory of the babies. Sorry, that was long, I'm just having such mixed, strong emotions about it and wanted to get it out to other people.

Other than that, this week has been full of school and work. I'm loving the warmer weather!

  • KO - That is so sad. :-(  It's wonderful that you and the group were able to rally together though.

    That sculpture is beautiful.

Ughhhh how horrible.  I'm crying.  Sad

That was so sweet of you to start the fund, and awesome with what you are doing with the money.  The sculpture will be treasured forever.

  • Thanks girls. :) It is really sad, but the parents are strong and will get through it. They're just very thankful that they had some time with the babies (were able to hold them for about 20 minutes before they passed... the babies were at 20 wks), and I think/hope they're finding comfort in knowing so many people love and care about the little ones.

  • Okay, enough with the somberness.

Does anyone have fun plans for the weekend? I think DH and I are going to drive up to GR to check out one of the restaurants for restaurant week. Any suggestions? I think we're also going to go to Hopcat for the first time, so if anyone wants to join, let me know! :)

  • H went to the rental last night to look at a broken door.  Afterwards he talked to one of our old neighbors for a while.  He found out that the cops were over at the house the other night.

I'm assuming it would be overstepping our boundaries to confront the tenants with that information?  I'm curious as to why the cops were there.  I think we are going to schedule a walk through to check on the house.

H and I are doing a date night Friday night.  My aunt offered to watch T overnight, so we'll have a full night to ourselves.  I don't think we've had that since we went to Vegas in May.

  • Confession:  I really wanted to snuggle with T last night, and was hoping he would wake up from sleeping so I could.  I finally heard him whimper, so I ran to his room.  Of course he was already sleeping again.  But I smelled a very stinky diaper, so I gladly (gently) woke him up, changed his diaper, and snuggled with him for a while.  Smile  I've never been so happy to change a stinky diaper.

Hmm.. you're probably right that it would be overstepping boundaries to ask about it (unless it has something to do w/ the broken door, which you wouldn't know I suppose). I think walking through the house would be a good idea, though!

Oh, how nice! Do you know what you're going to do yet? Just relax at home, or go out?

Aww :) That made my heart melt! I can't wait to have a baby for the snuggles!

  • We had a similar situation on this board about four years ago. One of our members lost her triplets at 20 some weeks. It was heartbreaking.

She has since been blessed with two children, but the pain of losing the triplets can never be eased. That must be so hard because you would never get to experience what it would be like to have triplets. You build it up in your mind and then it doesn't happen.

We are off to Milwaukee - otherwise we'd totally go to HopCat.  One of our favorite places.  If you like good beer, you should go to Founders too. Have fun!

I think we are going out to dinner.  That's all that we have planned so far.  :)

Yeah what happened? I went to Chicago on Friday afternoon, when it was around $2.80s, and we came home Saturday to find it over $3. WTH?!

  • I did not have a good night last night. I am upset and sick to my stomach. I hope today goes a lil better. Car had to go to shop AGAIN

Awww! :-)  Sometimes I wake Andy up so I can get a snuggle in.  Thankfully there are never any dirty diapers involved in that though.  :-P

    Hahaha, that's good.  Wink

  • Here's a random thought I had today.

"If I have a baby that's born just after Christmas, I bet I could get good deals on toys for their birthday."

Keep in mind we are no where close to having babies.

  • I kind of want to get these Mood Barometer Mugs for my boss for Christmas:

Ooo, those look fancy and delicious.

Andy just informed me he needs to bring a treat into work tomorrow for his bday.  I'm trying to decide what to bake . . .

They're not baked, but what about rice crispie treats?

These are really good, and easy, too:

  • Yeah!!!!!!!! One problem resolved. Car is fixed and back. Turns out the clamp that they put on the hose on Friday busted off. So they put a new one on and made sure it wouldnt come off and no charge to me :)

We went to Tre Cugini and had a great experience. But no matter where you choose, I'd strongly recommend making a reservation in advance...many of the participating restaurants are filling up with so many Restaurant Week attendees!

Ha.  My thoughts are that my next kid will be born in the summer.  I hate that his birthday is 3 weeks after Christmas.  Too many gifts all at once.  And then a dry spell for a year...lol.

I think I remember you saying you were in Muskegon area right? Is your rental in Muskegon County? I use this site quite regularly when I want to be nosey and see what is going on in my neighborhood.

Something happened at a refinery near Chicago and that upped the prices around here for a while.  I was glad to hear it on the news ahead of time & that I had just bought gas.  I'm hoping to eek through my 1/4 tank tomorrow so I don't have to buy until it goes just a little lower still.
