Roast recipe

This weather has me in the mood to make a roast this weekend. The kind with delicious root vegetables cooked with it. Anyone have a favorite recipe? Crockpot or other?

Re: Roast recipe

  • Pre-heat to 425.  I coat it with flour, salt and pepper and garlic powder, sear it in a pan, transfer it to an oven baking dish surrounded by large onion chunks, carrots and potatoes.  Put it in the oven, lower heat to 375, stab it with a meat thermometer and cook it to Medium.

  • Beef bouillon,Tomato juice, water,  Worcestershire sauce and basil.

Brown roast on all sides first in a frying pan .  Place dutch oven with the sauce and cook for one hour at 325.  Add vegtables and bake for another 45-60 minutes.

  • Sam, you keep the meat thermometer in the roast while it's cooking? I had never thought of that. Dur.

My sister makes a roast similar to how Sam does only she puts it in the crockpot. For the liquid she uses apple juice. She also puts and onion soup packet in there.

Just make sure the thermometer is ovenproof -- lots of instant read thermometers are not.

Are you looking for a beef idea, because I have a good recipe for a braised whole chicken with root vegetables.

  • I'll give you my roast ressypee if you answer the email I sent you yesterday, punk.

  • I'd give you my ressypee, but I add velveeta to it at the end, which I'm pretty sure is (yummy) blasphemy.

You know I love you, but that sounds kind of gross.

  • Velveeta in a roast ressypee?  I'm not anti-Velveeta, but the idea of a cheesy roast just seems weird.

  • This is my favourite one.
  • I use the crockpot a lot. Using apple cider is always yummy, with onions, sliced potato, sliced apples, carrots, and garlic. Nom.
  • I know it sounds disgusting, really, but that's how my mom Made it and I've always done the same. Everyone who actually tries it loves it. It just makes a sort of cheesy sauce to go with it.
