But how early should I show up to a rally? BO will be in town Wednesday, and I RSVPed to go...

EARLY...
during the primaries, I got to a rally @9, he was scheduled for 1... the only reason I was seated in non-nosebleeds was because my (former) union had a section blocked off.
I'd say go as early as you rationally can.
I am the 99%.
We saw Biden this weekend at a stadium for 10K. 12K showed. Doors opened at noon for a 2 p.m. rally, and we arrived at 11:30. It was perfect timing - we got good seats without having to wait too long. I would say there were ~2000 people there when we arrived.
For BHO, I would probably get there 1-2 hours before doors open to line up.
