I've barely seen my husband in 2 weeks :(

The other day someone mentioned having an opposite work schedule of their husband which is exactly what my husband and I have. He came home from work this morning to tell me they are working Friday night which is normally the only day we both have off. He had already taken off Thursday night so we could go out to dinner with a couple friends but now he wants to go in at 1:30 in the morning if we aren't back in time for him to go in at 9:30.

I'm trying to look at the positive side; his paychecks are larger and we do get to have dinner together Thursday night. Thursday night will be our only time together all week/weekend. Plus with Thanksgiving coming up and out of town guests staying at our house we were going to spend Friday cleaning but now he will have to sleep. It kind of sucks never getting to see your husband.

Sorry, for the long vent... I just needed to get it out!

  • Bleah, I would hate that too.  Do you have a lot of your own friends  that live nearby?

  • What a bummer.  I would be upset too.  I think you're looking at it positively, though - at least you get to spend Thursday with him, and you are getting the financial benefits.  Try to stay thinking positively and keep yourself busy with other activities to keep yourself from getting down.  Think of how much stronger your relationship will be once you make it through this. :-)

  • Trust me I know what you mean. Me and H works opposite schedules. I work the normal 9-5 and he works 2pm-11pm so i'm asleep by the time he gets home and hes asleep when I leave in the morning. Luckly right now we have a roomate (my best friend of 13 years) living with us so she keeps me company. But I still  miss my H. He has been in San Antonio (for training for his promotion) since Monday and comes home today though and I am so happy!

  • I totally empathize with you. My husband was working Wednesday through Sunday for 8.5 months which left me solo on the weekend days. So he missed out on graduation parties over the summer and having our wedding on a weekend day. However, now since his working hours are Monday through Friday for the most part, we have weekends together again and I'm thrilled.

Hopefully it's just a temporary situation for you guys but soak it in when the two of you get your alone time.

  • Yup, totally understand. Richard just started his new shift on Monday.  He's already working OT and hasn't been getting home until 2:30 am.  It's a bummer but he's making more money and we have our weekends together.  Plus now I have my baking blog to keep me busy!

Just remember, that we will get through it!

  • I can completely relate. Of the past three weeks DH has been home 3 days. The other days he's spent working trade shows for his company out of town/state. It's been a lonely several weeks. He's gone now too until Sunday. It sucks.

  • Thank you girls! I do have some friends relatively close that I do things with some nights of the week. Then with working on the weekend we don't do a ton with friends on the weekend. We try to spend a few hours together on Saturday nights before I head to work the next morning.
