I'm hoping to find new ways of doing some professional networking. Can anyone recommend a group that is open to people from a wide range of fields? Which one? Pros and cons in your opinion?
I'd prefer something NOT like BNI. Joining that would bring up some ethical issues that I don't really feel like dealing with. Aside from that, the premise on which it operates doesn't feel genuine to me.

Great a/s on 11/16/12 - It's a girl!
have you considered joining twitter and social media groups? you'd be surprised the interesting folks on there. there is a monthly social media breakfast group and it's both networking and learning more about social media in various industries.
another random place is to facebook the st paul cookie company lady on FB. she has really cool cross-the-board networking gigs, I think monthly, and the entire purpose is networking like you want.
I've gone to a few Women in Networking events and found them to be decent, a good mix of industry, nice amount of time, etc. However, it's only women which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for/comfortable with.
Also, the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce hosts a wide variety of networking events, open to all types of industry/people.
Thanks for the ideas. I'll look into them.
Elizabeth, who is the St. Paul cookie company lady? I googled St. Paul cookie company but couldn't find anything.
