Just got my birthday cake
A day early.
Dave gets me a DQ ice cream cake every year, because they are my all time favourite. I guess he's worried that they're going to be closed here tomorrow and he didn't want me to miss out, so he brought it home today.
I'm not allowed to look into the bag to see what KIND of ice cream cake he bought, but it's a big one!! I am also getting a chocolate cake with boiled icing on Friday, my friend texted me to tell me she's going to make me one

What is "boiled icing"?
And you are making me retroactively bitter about my birthday. Mine always falls during the mandatory Fall Workshop at work, where I get to sit in an unairconditioned auditorium (in August) with 200 people and listen to mind-numbing presentations. And stay an hour later than usual.
I actually have no idea about how to make boiled icing. My mom always used to make it when she would bake us cakes, and it is DELICIOUS. It is really light and sugary and totally yum.
I was pumped when I got the text from my friend asking if I like boiled icing, because it's not something I make myself.
And I feel your bday pain. My birthday fell directly in the middle of midterms from grade 10 straight through until I graduated university, so everyone was always buckling down and never wanted to go out for my bday because they were stressed about exams. Add that to the fact that nothing is OPEN on my birthday, so I can't go shopping, to the gym, or to do anything even remotely fun...it hasn't been the greatest. The only benefit is that I have never ever had to go to school or work on my birthday!

I used to do boiled icing for a bunny cake I have made in the past.

This is quite similar to how you make Italian Meringue (minus the corn syrup). I ALWAYS use Italian Meringue Buttercream on my cakes. It's the only kind I like and it's SOOOO much better than "grocery store" frosting (AKA American Buttercream) which I think is way to sweet and greasy.

The DQ cake sounds really good right now. The boiled icing is intriguing me. Might have to try this at our Christmas baking weekend.
