Prepping for an interview

I have an interview on Friday and I feel like I should really prep since it's been about a month or so since my last one.

So how do you ladies prep?  What questions should I anticipate an answer for?  I feel like I'm in a rut on those and I just don't know what will help me stick out from all the other applicants.

Oh - and if you can spare a few, please keep my sister in your T's & P's.  Her company just announced they are laying off 400 employees nationwide, so far she has made it through the first cut.  As you know, her family lost their home to a fire last year and are in the beginning stages of re-building.  Her husband has also been laid up for a good chunk of the year from not one, but two Achilles tendon surgeries.  So, they've essentially been a one income family.  They could really use some good luck!!

Re: Prepping for an interview

  • I got nothing in terms of question prep...but I'll probably be in the same boat as you in a few months when we move to a new place. Maybe prepare for the basics - why you're good for the job, how your prior experience will help you out in this new position, what you would bring to the job that would set you apart from other candidates etc.

And I'm keeping your sister and her family in my thoughts - what a strong family.

ETA: Also sending job dust your way! Good luck on Friday!!

  • your sis and her family are in my prayers!

good luck w/ the job interview. again, why you're the right person for the job, the skills/assets you'll bring to the position, strengths/weaknesses, make sure to talk about anything you created/implemented at your current job that was a success.

    ******job dust!*********

  • I always hate when they ask what my biggest weakness is. I always try to prepare a good answer for that that gives a weakness in a positive light.

Good luck to you and your sister!

  • Remember a time when you were completely overwhelmed with work and what you did to get the job done.

Remember a time when teamwork came into play and how you succeeded.

    What's your greatest weakness?

Are you interviewing with a private company? Do your research. Know who their competitors are, and what their growth has been lately.

    College? Know your executive staff.

  • I'll give you a hint, never actually give them your greatest weakness - they woudln't know anyway.  Give them something you can turn around as a positive.

I've been interviewing lately and the weirdest question I got was, "If I was a criminal law defendant, give me a one or two word quick catch phrase to tell me why I should hire you."

Never got that before, but that whole interview was like nothing I'd ever experienced before.

  • good luck! one of my old bosses told me he used to ask people "what's your favorite color and why?" the point being he didn't really care about the answer, but how you handle the question and think of your feet is what counts.

don't forget the old standby, where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Like your perfectionist personality type that leads you to lack delegating ability.

    Precisely!

  • Good Luck with the interview and lots of job vibes for your sister.

The questions I've been getting lately are,

Greatest strengths and weakness? (and yes make your weakness a strength)

Where do you see yourself in five years?

How do you handle an irrate person?

Also research the company and try to get at least three good questions to ask about the company and the job itself. One of my favorites to ask if it's a small company is Where do you see the company in five years, it's good to turn it back on them, and it feels so good.
