I was scheduled to leave Vegas tomorrow at 1:00 and get home at 8:30 pm. The conference ended at noon today. I just got a text from my mom that she is having surgery late tomorrow afternoon and I've talked to my dad today and he's struggling a bit.
I haven't shared with you that my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July and has been enduring daily radiation treatments since September. His last treatment is next Thursday. But he hit the radiation wall on Saturday and is really exhausted this week. Tripled with my mom's health scare and the new puppy that came home on Sunday night, Dad has his hands full and is running on a tank that's about 1/4 full. So Bella went home with Matt when he went down to visit my mom on Tuesday. Great news for my dad who slept from 8 - 5 with no interruptions last night. He really needed it.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well because the conference ended today and now I have time to worry. I got word from my mom that she is having surgery late tomorrow afternoon. And I want to be there for both her and my dad.
So I called the airline and told them she's having surgery and would like to get on an earlier flight. They tell me $150 + the change in fare comes to almost $225 to change, unless I can share the hospital contact info and they can confirm her admission and health status. It took 35 minutes on the phone, but they did it and I got a compassion fare of $72.50 to get on the 11:55 p.m. flight tonight. It gets me home at 8:45 a.m.
I will go home, grab some more clothes, and take everything with me to my parents, where I will stay until Sunday. My mom is in a hospital about 30 minutes away - in the city we got married in actually. Matt will come down on Friday night with Henry (his 9-yr-old son) and Bella. So, I'm feeling a lot better. I have about 4 hours til I have to leave for the airport, so I'm going to order room service and pack. Hoping to have some time for a little bit of gambling before I leave. Wouldn't it be nice if I hit a jackpot before I left?! Even a small one will do - I'd be happy with a grand or two or three.
So that's what's happening here. I've been trying to stay up on what's going on on the board, but it's been busy with all the conference activities and everything with my mom and trying to keep up with work email.
Re: Leaving tonight... (long)
I'm so sorry... and I can't believe during a difficult time that airlines would be that strict with changing a ticket. geesh.
I hope everything with your mom's surgery goes well and that your dad can get some rest! I'm sure they'll be glad to get the extra helping hands
Same here. *hugs*
Exactly! I'll be praying for your family. Hugs!
