Homemade Laundry Detergent
I just started making my own laundry detergent, and I was wondering from any of you who already do this, is there a significant reason why I'm supposed to let it sit overnight before mixing it to it's final product. I have the 5 gallon bucket of it sitting in my kitchen and want to use it tonight to do laundry, but didn't know if it made a difference if I hadn't let it sit overnight first?
Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent
Hm, IDK.
Did you make one that you pre-mix with water?
Mine is powdered so you wouldn't have to wait.
I haven't done it yet myself, but my mom does, she uses the one with the most Borax and Washing Soda and loves it. Works great for filthy farmers clothing, as in it cuts the grease!

Would you say it's worth making it vs. the convenience of buying it?
Coming out of lurk mode. I've been using this for about two years and it works really well on our clothes.
The first time making it was a pain, but it has gotten easier. I make one batch and it lasts about 6-8 months for DH and I. (We do about 4-5 loads of laundry a week). As far as how much it costs, I think it is worth it. It takes me about 1/2 hr - 1 hr to make it and then I don't have to worry about it for about 6 months...
Thanks! I can't wait to try this out!
I've been wondering about making detergent, I think I'll try it when our bottle gets low.
I also think I will try making baby food, I know a lot of women who do. Course we are still TTC so I've got some time to do some research. Not sure though if I can use cloth diapers, that seems like a lot of work!
I'd like to try both of these too!
